• Volvo released a new preview of the electric ES90 mid-size luxury car before its official launch on March 5.
  • The teaser not only shows off the ES90’s software but also discusses how the SPA2 design it is based on will allow for constant updates.
  • When it comes out, the ES90 will be next to the current S90 car and will be built on the same platform as the EX90 SUV.

Volvo has released a new video for the fully electric ES90, which will be shown off next month. The mid-size luxury car was first hinted at at an investor relations meeting last September. The full reveal is set for a March 5 webcast.

Volvo Teases The 2026 ES90 Electric Sedan In Advance Of Its March Unveiling

The automaker’s newest information is mostly about the “Superset tech stack,” which is the group of hardware and software parts that support the ES90. The sedan is Volvo’s next step in making software-defined cars. The technology is meant to make over-the-air updates happen more often and faster, which will improve safety and the general user experience. Volvo says that the technology could offer two benefits: a longer range and more networking features.

The second Volvo car will be built on the SPA2 platform and Volvo’s top-of-the-line EX90 SUV. Volvo says that another benefit of the Superset stack is that improvements can be made to one car at the same time as those to another.

Since the ES90 and the EX90 SUV share a base, the ES90 is expected to use the same 111.0-kWh battery pack. However, the sedan’s range will be shorter, at 300 to 310 miles. As planned, Volvo will sell both the gas-powered S90 sedan and the electric ES90 as it moves toward a future with only electric cars.

When the car is released next month, more details about the price, engine, and technologies should be available.
