• This brand-new Volkswagen concept car shows how an electric sedan version of the ID.7 might look if it were more sporty.
  • It is called the ID.X Performance idea, and it has a 551-hp electric engine with two motors.
  • This design should not be built, but an ID.7 with two motors is coming.

Even though Volkswagen’s new ID.7 sedan isn’t the most exciting new electric car coming out soon, the concept model it made for an electric vehicle (EV) event in Switzerland is eye-catching. The ID.X Performance idea makes the ID.7 more fun to drive by giving it a more powerful drivetrain, a newer suspension, and different looks.

The ID.X has a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system with electric front and back motors producing a massive 551 hp. The ID.7 only had a 282-hp electric engine that drove the back wheels. Also, the differential in the back is locked. The suspension has been dropped by 2.3 inches, and aggressive Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires are on the 10-spoke bronze wheels.

Volkswagen also put on a body kit with a splitter in the front, a diffuser in the back, and a big wing on the back decklid. Also, the headlights are now less bright. There are red accents all over the inside, and the front seats have a lot of support.

Volkswagen has hinted at more sporty EVs with ID badges like the ID.GTI concept that appeared at the Munich auto show. This idea will not be put into production, though. A more powerful ID.7 with two motors and an all-wheel drive will likely be added to the range.
