Porsche said that the next 718 would be all electric and come out in 2021. Since then, there have been a lot of spy pictures of the roadster being tested without an engine. This spy movie from the Nürburgring is the first time we’ve seen it in action.

During a recent industry test pool session, CarSpyMedia used YouTube to record this 718 Boxster prototype driving around the Nordschleife. This test car looks like the future electric 718 under cover because the front and back fascia’s have been changed and there are no side air vents.

The lack of sound is another sign that something is wrong. As the test driver pushes the prototype to its limits around the Green Hell, all the tires can do is squeal in frustration. The sound of engines in the movie above comes from cars driving by the camera.

Since Porsche hasn’t released any information or performance numbers about the planned electric 718, there’s no way to know if the batteries will make the car heavier or if the electric motors will make it faster. We shouldn’t have to wait too long to find out more, since the company says the car will be shown off in the “middle of the decade.”
