• The first image of Mini’s brand-new sport utility vehicle (SUV), the Countryman, has been released to the general public.
  • Production of the vehicle will begin this year at a BMW plant in Germany, and it won’t be sold in the United States until the 2025 model year.
  • To know whether the new Countryman’s gasoline and electric variants will be available in the United States, we will have to wait.

UPDATE as of April 7, 23: Mini has announced the release of the technical specifications for the electric Countryman 2025, which will be offered in 188-horsepower E and 308-horsepower SE ALL4 versions. This page has been updated to incorporate information regarding the electric motors, battery packs, and anticipated range of the vehicle in question.

We just discovered that Mini’s largest SUV, the Countryman SUV, will have an electric model in the next generation. Meanwhile, new photos of a 2025 Countryman model that has been covered up showed that, as expected, it looks like a Mini.

The 2025 Mini Countryman will be produced for the first time at a BMW plant in Leipzig, Germany, beginning this year. This will be the first time that a Mini has been assembled in the nation in which its parent firm is headquartered. It will be manufactured in the same facility as previous BMWs, namely the 2-series Gran Coupe, which is where it will be assembled. Even though we have yet to determine the exact date, we expect to be able to buy both the gas and electric models in the United States.

The electric Mini Countryman and the BMW iX1, which is an electric version of the X1 crossover but is not sold in the United States, share a few components between them. The base Mini E has a single electric motor with 188 horsepower, but the 308-horsepower SE ALL4 has two electric motors and all-wheel drive, just like the BMW. Mini says that each Countryman EV with a 64.8 kWh battery pack will have a WLTP range of 280 miles. When the official EPA numbers come out, the US range will be lower, probably less than 240 miles.

The 2023 BMW X1 has a 2.0-liter inline-four turbocharged engine, making 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This engine is likely to power the gas version, but it may have different power levels for the Countryman base, S, and JCW models.

The new Mini Cooper hatchback is also in the works, but we haven’t heard anything about it since we saw some photographs of the new car in 2021 that were accidentally published online. As the company continues to change its lineup, like getting rid of the Clubman wagon in favor of the new Iceman EV, more information about Mini will likely become available.
