Toyota has been reluctant to join the rest of the big automakers in shifting production to include more fully electric vehicles within the next ten years, even though several other large automakers are currently in the process of doing so. Even though it now manufactures at least one battery electric vehicle (BEV) in the form of the bZ4x (and it’s Lexus cousin, the RZ450e), Toyota feels hybrids are a better overall solution for decreasing emissions than pure BEVs. This is because hybrids combine the benefits of both pure BEVs and hybrids. Most of Toyota’s cars and trucks today are hybrids, including the Tacoma 2024 pickup truck, which also features an electric drivetrain. It still needs to incorporate its sports cars, such as the GR86 and the GR Supra, into its push toward electrification. However, this might change very shortly.

According to Bestcarweb, which Top Speed obtained, Toyota is reportedly contemplating the creation of a nearly identical version of the GR86 coupe. An entirely new platform and an electrified powertrain are two of the significant alterations that have been made. Strangely, Toyota kept its smaller sports car the same when it initially appeared as a Scion FR-S. This means a flat-four, naturally aspirated engine still powers it and is not electric. Additionally, it was co-produced with Subaru and used a machine from Subaru. Nevertheless, the concept is intriguing because it piques our interest in conducting additional investigations.
