After being named our Performance Car of the Year, we can see why you’d want to get a 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 immediately. (Hell, you’d like one even if we hadn’t named it the best sports car.) Those who took the risk and bought Z06s could be doing better. On online forums, people who have placed orders have complained about shipping delays that last for months. We saw a seven-page post on the MidEngineCorvetteForum from people waiting for their Z06 sales from Motor1.

Many people on the site said that the “3800” production code for their order meant that the car had been made but was still being sent. “My Z07 has been at 3800 status since August, and with the UAW strike getting worse, who knows when I’ll get it,” said forum user “Narazumono85.” They are not the only people whose order status has been stuck at 3800 since August; the discussion is full of people in similar situations.

As the reactions show, several members guess why the delays are happening and think the current UAW strikes may have something to do with it. Most believe UAW strikes affect supply lines, so connecting the two is close. When we asked Chevrolet about the delays in taking orders for the Corvette Z06, this is what they said:

“There are still shortages of short parts in the industry due to several factors.” Because of the effect on Bowling Green, we’ve taken steps to keep production up to keep up with the high demand. Because of this, some vehicles are being made without certain parts. The cars will be fixed and sent to buyers as soon as the details become available. We are doing everything possible to solve these problems as quickly as possible.

So, Chevrolet says the delays are because there aren’t enough parts. But the statement doesn’t say what’s going on and doesn’t say that the UAW strikes are to blame for the gaps. Even though it’s been almost three years since the global epidemic, could the car industry still be feeling its effects? Is Chevrolet being diplomatic about the strikes? One or both of these ideas look like they can’t be wrong. But none of this will speed up the time to get cars to Z06 buyers.
