Lexus just updated its SUV range with the new GX and TX models. Each has three rows of seats for up to seven people. Both types still use internal combustion engines (ICE), but a new trademark application suggests that a Lexus three-row SUV that runs on electricity is being studied. According to the user “Harrier” of the Lexus RX Owners community website, four new trademark filings exist for two supposed Lexus “TZ” cars in Europe. Electric picked these up. There are two applications for something with the name “TZ450e” and two more with the word “TZ550e,” but Lexus does not sell any cars with these model names in the global or US markets right now. We can figure out a few things from the names based on how Lexus calls things. For instance, the company uses an “S” for sedans, a “X” for SUVs, a “M” for MPVs for other markets, and a “Z” for cars with no pollution. For example, the RX450e has already been changed to the RZ450e by changing the “X” to a “Z,” and we can probably expect the same with the upcoming Lexus TZ. If the Lexus TX is the brand’s biggest three-row SUV with an internal combustion engine (ICE), then the Lexus TZ will be a substantial three-row SUV that runs on electricity. But, likely, we won’t know what the TZ is for at least a few years. Toyota, which owns Lexus, has said it will build three new platforms for all-electric cars. The first new models will come out in 2026. The Lexus TZ will likely become the biggest of the three new models. It will cost a few thousand dollars more than the new Lexus TX three-row SUV, which starts at $55,000.
