Even though the Volkswagen Golf has gone off-road a few times, it is primarily a road car. To be clear, VW isn’t bringing back the Alltrack, but an Mk8 Golf with a higher ride height is still possible. With an all-terrain update from a German off-road master, the 2017 Golf R can be a stricter hatchback than any other. It is called the Country and has everything it needs for the way. Delta4x4 got a makeover after making lifts for cars like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and the Tesla Model 3. It was based on the Mk2 Golf Country, a unique high-riding vehicle with all-wheel drive, long-travel suspension, a skid plate, and bull bars. The Golf Country didn’t sell very well when it came out, but now it’s considered a cult favourite. Due to how popular overlanding is right now, this is a great time to bring it back. Delta4x4 took a Golf R and lifted it 3.1 inches to make the Mk8 Golf Country. This gave it a total ground clearance of about 8.8 inches. But it has a lot more speed than the Crosstrek. The standard Golf R. makes 315 horsepower. The update changes the stock wheels from 19″ Hanma units to 18″ Hanma units and switches to off-road tires for better grip and stronger sides. Delta4x4 makes room for them by adding a roof rack, PIAA LED floodlights, and fender flares. Everything is TÜV-compliant, which means it was made to meet Germany’s strict rules about what can and can’t be driven on the road. Because of this, it’s not cheap: delta4x4 thinks the modifications will cost $38,200, almost as much as the original car. Delta4x4 will only do 25 Mk8 Golf Country changes, so you’ll be one of a kind. Even though it’s sad that one of the most interesting Golfs ever made won’t be made again, it makes sense that it will be hard to find, just like the Mk2 that it was based on.
