• Since the i3 car and iX3 SUV came out, BMW has switched to a dual-platform approach for its gas-powered and electric cars.
  • The company is likely to stop making the Z4 soon, which is a shame.
  • In the future, the Alpina subbrand will likely go up against Mercedes-Maybach and Bentley.

The new battery-electric BMW Neue Klasse platform will go on sale in 2025. It will power the iX3 and i3, which are not connected to the original i3 hatchback, and will be available for the 2026 model year. Both cars are battery-powered models of the X3 and 3-series. The 3-series will get a new look in 2026, and the X3 will get one later this year.

With the iX3 and i3, BMW will take the next step toward EVs in 2026

The gasoline or diesel versions will be built on the CLAR II platform, which is already used by the battery-electric i5 and i7 and the gas-powered 5 and 7 series. BMW will likely keep using two systems until 2035, at which point it will switch to an all-electric portfolio.

Some coupons and convertibles will be taken away

Happy birthday to the Z4! There won’t be another wave of BMW roadsters, battery-powered or not. Munich also doesn’t plan to bring back the Z4 roadster, which could be selling better and looks a lot like the concept car in the picture, the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.

Sources close to the company say that the next generation of cars will only come as a four-door Gran Coupe. This means that the 8-series coupe and convertible are likely to be scrapped. In the next 8-series, we expect to see a CPU like the i8 that runs on batteries.

Rolls-Royce and Alpine

In addition, BMW wants to move its Alpina-fiddled cars higher so that it can better compete with Mercedes-Maybach. To avoid competition within the company, Rolls-Royce will not make a replacement for the Ghost. Instead, the future Alpina B7 will do the job. With models like the newly announced Droptail and an electric Spectre coupe droptop version, Rolls-Royce is likely to focus more on being unique.
