The 2026 Volvo ES90, the latest addition to the brand’s lineup of electric vehicles, boasts an elegant design that maintains the sleek appearance of a sedan while cleverly concealing a rear hatch. Its selection of powertrains spans from a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive configuration that produces 329 horsepower to a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variant capable of delivering up to 670 horsepower. The ES90 has not yet received an official EPA range estimate; however, we anticipate that models equipped with the larger battery will be capable of traveling approximately 369 miles on a full charge. The most well-known car company in Sweden has finally shown off its first electric car.” The 2026 Volvo ES90 is a hatchback, but its roofline slopes backward, making it look like a car that disappears. This is Volvo’s sixth electric car total, even though it is the fifth one sold in the US. The ES90 will be available along with Volvo’s well-known gas-powered S90 car. The new electric EX90 SUV will also be available, along with the regular XC90. A Reduced Environmental Impact Volvo’s famous “Thor’s Hammer” headlight design can be seen on both sides of the wide and flat front bumper. The back of the car looks like any other Volvo. The C-shaped taillights are highlighted by extra LEDs that reach into the rear window. The glass roof blends in with the rest of the body, but the lidar sensor that handles the ES90’s high-tech driver-assistance features is placed on top of the car, which takes away from its otherwise sleek look. The gas-powered S90 has a length that is 120.5 inches, while the ES90’s is 122.1 inches. The gas version of the ES90 is 200.4 inches long, while the electric version is 196.9 inches long. The ES90 has more space and a longer wheelbase. With a height of 60.9 inches, the EV is about four inches bigger than the ICE model. The S90 plug-in hybrid weighs 4665 pounds at the curb, while the ES90 can weigh up to 5787 pounds. The inside of the ES90 looks a lot like the inside of other new Volvo EVs. What draws people to this car is the 14.5-inch touchscreen in the middle of the dashboard. This controls the entertainment system and other car features. The screen is set up upright, and it runs the same software that comes with other Google products. A head-up display shows the most important information and a smaller 9.0-inch panel is attached to the steering column. Volvo says customers can choose from different types of upholstery materials, and the ES90 has several different lighting choices inside. Volvo says that the panoramic roof that comes with all of its cars blocks up to 99.9% of UV rays. With an extra electrochromic glass roof, users can also change how clear the glass is. Outstanding Achievement The ES90 comes with two different engine choices that give it three different power outputs. A single-motor rear-wheel-drive setup is used for the entry-level type. With 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque, Volvo says it can go from 0 to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds. The Twin Motor model in the middle price band has two motors: 442 horsepower and 494 pound-feet of torque. Volvo says it takes 5.3 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph. Volvo’s Twin Motor Performance really makes it stand out at the top of the list. Like the mid-range model, the Performance has an electric motor on each end. However, it makes 670 horsepower and 635 pound-feet of torque. Now that it has more speed, it takes 3.9 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph. Volvo says that at 0.25, the car has the lowest drag coefficient (Cd) of any car it has ever made. That number should make the ES90’s hitting range even better. The EPA hasn’t yet approved the new Volvo, but we think the bigger battery will last about 369 miles on a full charge, and the smaller pack will last about 343 miles on a full charge. With its 800-volt design, the ES90 should be able to charge at competitive speeds, making it the first electric Volvo. With a 102.0-kWh battery, the dual-motor cars can add 186 miles to their range in 10 minutes or charge from 10% to 80% in 20 minutes when hooked up to a 350-kW DC fast charger. The battery pack for the single-motor version is smaller at 88 kWh, but it can be charged at up to 300 kW. We’ll have to wait a little longer for Volvo’s new flagship car (hatchback) to come to the US, but you can already place an order for it in most of Europe. Volvo says that the ES90 will be sold in other countries later this year and in 2026.
