Our Opinion - 2025 Cadillac XT6 Review

A luxury SUV with three rows of seats that fits below the sporty Escalade is also sold by Cadillac. It is called the XT6. There is less room inside the XT6 than in that truck-based giant, but it has cleaner overall dimensions, rides and handles more like a car, and costs less. The V-8 engine can be switched out for a 2.0-liter turbo-four or 3.6-liter V-6 engine, though. The XT6 can still fit the whole family because it can seat six or seven people. The third row, on the other hand, is not the best place for little kids. The XT6 looks like older Caddys because of its curved exterior and stylish front end. The Escalade has a more luxurious cabin, which is a shame for such a high-end SUV.

It’s strange that the XT6 hasn’t changed as 2025 approaches. Caddy’s mid-size three-row car hasn’t changed much since it was introduced for the 2020 model year. In 2026, the XT6 is likely to get a new look.

Pros

  • Enjoy a serene and peaceful ride.
  • Experience the comfort of a spacious interior.
  • Delight in the convenience of a large, user-friendly touchscreen.

Cons

  • Outdated interior design.
  • Cabin quality could be much better.
  • Lacks sportiness.

The XT6 comes with two different engine choices: a 3.6-liter V-6 engine with 310 horsepower or a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 235 horsepower. Both come with an automatic nine-speed transmission. You can get an XT6 with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, but the Sport only comes with all-wheel drive. And the steering is tuned for faster responses, which gives it even more attitude. The rear differential can direct power. The Sport model can come with 21-inch wheels, but the regular model only comes with 20-inch wheels. With the Platinum choice, the XT6 can get all the extras, such as the sports suspension.  Even while it has decent handling for a three-row crossover, no one will think your hands are those of the elegant CT5 sedan.

The XT6 comes with standard features like autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear park assist. The Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels offer more advanced features like adaptive cruise control, night vision, reverse braking, and Super Cruise hands-free driving. Important safety measures include:

  • Pedestrian detection is built in when standard autonomous emergency braking is being used.
  • Standard lane-departure notice and built-in help for staying in your lane.
  • Offers adaptive cruise control with a convenient hands-free driving mode.

The Cadillac XT6 has either six or seven seats, with either captain’s chairs or a bench with three seats in the second row. As is usual with many mid-size SUVs with three rows of seats, the third row is hard to get to and can’t fit fully grown adults. In the third row, there can be two people. Both the front and back seats of the XT6 are comfortable, but the cabin could be nicer than the BMW X5 or Audi Q7. Behind the third row of seats, there is just enough space in the cargo area for three carry-on bags. There is room for 31 bags, though, if all of the back seats are packed down. The XT6 is better than the Q7 for carrying big, heavy bags because it can hold up to 25 cases with the seats folded down. The Q7, on the other hand, can only fit four cases behind the third row.

The EPA says the XT6 with four cylinders gets 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. (On the highway, that number drops to 26 with AWD.) V-6 cars get 19/26 mpg in the city and on the highway, which is almost as good. Both of these numbers are one less than they were before AWD. The most current V-6 all-wheel-drive XT6 we evaluated got 22 miles per gallon on our highway fuel efficiency route at 75 miles per hour, which is lower than the 26 miles per gallon predicted by the EPA for this vehicle type.

All types of the XT6 come with touchscreen entertainment systems that work with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. They also have built-in Wi-Fi that can be used as a hotspot and wireless charging for your devices. A trial period of three months is provided at no cost. Cadillac’s newest software works well on an 8.0-inch screen and responds to your orders. You can add guidance to the Luxury model if you want to, but the Premium Luxury and Sports models already have it.

It took an XT6 Sport with a V-6 engine 6.4 seconds to reach 60 mph, which could be better compared to other cars in this class. The Genesis G80, with a four-cylinder engine, took 6.1 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour, and the extra 375-horsepower twin-turbo V-6 took 5.3 seconds.

The Sport level comes with a V-6 engine and all-wheel drive, but the XT6 really shines as a luxury roadster. So, if you want all-wheel drive, the Premium Luxury model is a better deal. By the way, it has the same V-6 engine as the Sport. But we could still save some money if we added the Driver Assist package (which has adaptive cruise control and pedestrian recognition) and the Technology package (which has an 8.0-inch digital gauge display, a head-up display, and a 360-degree exterior camera system).
