Our Opinion - 2025 Acura TLX Review

It’s hard to say what other cars are like the TLX because it’s in the middle of a mid-size sedan and a small sports sedan, both of which are the Integra. The base model has a 272-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine and simple front-wheel drive, which makes it similar to smaller German cars like the Audi A4 or BMW 3-series. You can choose all-wheel drive. The Acura TLX is bigger than an Audi A6 or BMW 5-series, but the back seat has less space than those cars. This is true even though the TLX is wide, low, and long. The Type S type has stronger brakes and steering, as well as a turbocharged V-6 engine with 355 hp. The Type S’s standard SH-AWD system does a great job of hiding the fact that it has front-wheel drive, but the sports sedan’s size keeps it from reaching its full potential.

After being redesigned for the 2024 model year, the TLX doesn’t change for 2025.

The base TLX has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 272 horsepower and is paired with a 10-speed automatic gear. Front-wheel drive is normal, but Acura’s SH-AWD all-wheel-drive system, which sends power to all four wheels to improve grip and handling, is available as an option. Thanks to its well-tuned chassis, the TLX was a lot of fun to drive, and it showed that Acura could make a sports car. In this way, the Type S stands out because it has a 3.0-liter V-6 turbocharged engine with 355 horsepower, a quick 10-speed automatic gearbox, SH-AWD, and a sportier suspension setup. It has 20-inch wheels and summer tires that grip better than the regular TLX. During our most recent test drive, we were surprised by how well it controlled its body, how strong its brakes were, and how loud its engine was. The Type S’s standard SH-AWD technology excels at hiding the car’s front-wheel-drive roots, but the sports sedan’s size prevents it from reaching its ultimate performance potential.

All TLXs come with AcuraWatch, which has a number of tools that help the driver. The car also has some new technologies, like a monitor that shows how alert the driver is and technology that can read traffic signs. Some important safety features are:

The car feels roomier from side to side than some of its competitors in this class, but the back seat is smaller. Still, drivers like that they can see clearly ahead of them and that the front seats are fully movable. The TLX has premium leather seats and a variety of colors inside. It also has a head-up display that can be customized, and lighting settings are named after famous racetracks and driving locations, like “Pacific Coast” and “Suzuka.”

The figures say that the TLX with front-wheel drive gets 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. Rates drop to 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway for cars with SH-AWD. The TLX Type S can do 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. As part of our strict testing process, we drove a four-cylinder, all-wheel-drive car that got 30 mpg on a 75-mph fuel economy route.

Each TLX has a 12.3-inch infotainment system that is mostly managed by a touchpad in the middle console. In addition to the touchpad, traditional controls and buttons on the steering wheel can also be used to do some things. In addition, there is a padded area under the touchpad where you can rest your wrist, which makes it more comfortable to use. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot are all built into the TLX. People who want the best ELS sound system and a wireless charging pad will have to choose the advanced choice.

The base Acura TLX with a turbo-four engine took 5.9 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph, while the TLX Type S with a turbo V-6 engine did it in 4.6 seconds.

The 355-hp Type S is the best TLX type in terms of both price and how well it runs. It looks better because it costs less, especially when compared to the BMW M340i, even though the M340i has more power and is our pick. The Type S starts at less than $60,000, but the all-wheel-drive BMW can cost well over $60,000 when fully loaded. The Type S is less expensive and comes with leather seats, adjustable dampers, and an ELS high-end sound system as standard. The Performance package, which comes with special 20-inch summer tires that stop better and turn better, is another choice we think about.
