Our Opinion - 2025 Audi A4 Review

After thirty years, the Audi A4 will no longer be made after 2025. The new A5 will keep Audi’s spirit alive. It will have a new naming scheme, with even numbers for electric models and odd numbers for the last gas-powered models. As a sporty little sedan that is more understated than the brash BMW 3-series, the luxurious Mercedes-Benz C-Class, or the cocky Alfa Romeo Giulia, it leaves the world mostly the same way it came in. The Audi A4 is better for drivers looking for a middle ground because it is fun to drive and doesn’t draw too much attention to itself. Its high level of comfort and smart use of technology will make people of all kinds want to buy it. If speed is more important to you, the Audi S4 should work for you. If usefulness is more important, the A4 Allroad wagon has many features that will come in handy.

As the A4 gets ready to drive off into the sunset, only small changes are made to the 2025 model in terms of which features are available. The myAudi app now lets you start the engine from a distance on all models, and the base Premium trim’s Convenience package now has USB charging ports on the back seats. The Navigation package is now standard on the mid-range Premium Plus trim, while the Homelink smart home control buttons have been moved to the rearview mirror. For the Premium Plus and Prestige trim levels, the S Line Plus package has been added. It has black exterior trim, dark exhaust tips, 19-inch wheels, red brake calipers, leather and faux-suede seats, carbon fiber interior trim, and stainless steel pedal caps. Another change is that the 45 models now have 18-inch wheels.

Pros

  • The look of all the models is sporty.
  • The outside looks great.
  • The high-quality audio that is available works very well.

Cons

  • This is likely the last year for A4/S4.
  • Rigid ride without upgraded suspension.
  • Faulty audio and video system.

The Audi A4 comes in two powerful variants, 40 and 45. Both vehicles have a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder 12-volt hybrid powertrain with all-wheel drive, with the 40 producing 201 horsepower and the 45 producing 261 horsepower. Although we would prefer a six-speed manual, the only available transmission is a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The A4 is a sharp handler, if not a class leader, thanks to its strong grip on the road, well-controlled body movements, and precise steering. Another great thing about it is that its damping naturally strikes a balance between comfort and quick reflexes, producing well-rounded results. It’s easier to remember how the steering feels at low speeds and on the highway, which is important for a sporty sedan. But when you’re driving on roads with lots of turns, the steering works almost magically and pleasantly.

As usual, the 2025 Audi A4 comes with a lot of safety features and driver assistance systems. These include sensors that help you park close to the car, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking. The Premium Plus trim comes with a surround-view camera system and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. The Prestige trim adds a head-up display and a semi-automated parking system. All models can come with side airbags for the back seats. Some important safety features are:

  • It comes with adaptive cruise control.
  • Automatic emergency braking is standard, with forward collision warning.
  • Normal lane departure alert with assistance for lane keeping.

The A4’s elegant interior is made with cutting-edge technology, high-quality materials, and modern design elements, just like the rest of the Audi lineup. Most of the switches and controls feel good to the touch and are set up in a way that makes them easy to use. The A4 is great at making the most of passenger space, even though it has a small footprint. There are 35.7 inches of legroom in the back seats, and the standard sunroof makes the room feel even bigger. Like most trunks in this class, the trunk has 12 cubic feet of space, but the storage bins and cubbies are pretty small. The trunk is the perfect size for five carry-on bags, and the A4’s rear seat can easily fit longer items like fishing poles and skis thanks to its easy 40/20/40 split folding mechanism. The A4 is nice but less roomy, like many entry-level luxury sedans. If you need a lot more space for your stuff, get the A4 Allroad wagon instead.

The Audi A4 40 gets 26 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA. The A4 45 gets 24 miles per gallon in the city and 32 miles per gallon on the highway. Even so, the latest A4 45 model we tested got an impressive 33 mpg on our tough 75-mph highway fuel economy route.

The 10.1-inch touchscreen on the A4 infotainment system shows very clear images. By 2025, the myAudi app will let you remotely start all A4 models, and the Premium Plus trim now comes with a navigation system built in as standard. The Audi Connect service is free for the first three years. It has things like Google Voice Search, real-time traffic updates, and satellite map views. Two USB ports, voice command, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay are also standard, but only Apple CarPlay is wireless. The Premium Plus trim level comes with 19 speakers, in-car Wi-Fi, and SiriusXM satellite radio. It also has a more powerful Bang & Olufsen sound system. Audi’s Virtual Cockpit is a cool digital gauge display that comes with the car and gets great reviews.

The A4 45 we drove could go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, and the automatic transmission changed gears quickly and smoothly. We haven’t tested the base model with the 201-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine yet, but we’ll let you know when we do.

The Premium Plus trim is our favorite because it comes with a wireless phone charger, a premium sound system, a blind-spot monitor, a digital instrument panel, and lane-keep assist. We also suggest the 45 engine because it has 60 horsepower more than the old model and is well worth the extra $1500 in this trim.
