Our Opinion - 2025 Cadillac CT5 Review

Cadillac used to be known for making luxurious cars that floated on air and had odd chrome accents and Barcalounger seats inside. Today’s Cadillac markets its CT5 sedan as a sportier option to the stuffy DeVilles and Eldorados that people remember, which is a bad thing that seems to have stuck around for a long time. The CT5 that lives up to its sporty reputation is the V-series model, which has a strong 360-hp twin-turbo V-6 engine and quick handling. Not so much for the other trims, especially the base Luxury package with its 237-hp turbo-four engine, which has good speed but forgettable handling. The 668-hp, high-performance CT5-V Blackwing is the type that drivers will want the most, but we’ll talk about it separately. More luxurious sports cars, like the BMW 3-series, Mercedes-Benz C-class, and Genesis G70, are available. The CT5’s cabin is well-equipped with technology and comfortable enough for long trips. The CT5 is appealing because it comes in value-oriented packaging that lets customers get GM’s best technologies at a lower starting price than competitors.

Cadillac’s mid-size car will get a makeover in 2025. The grille, front fascia, and inside will all be changed. The CT5’s lighting system has also been changed. It now has stacked LED headlights and a vertical daytime running light. However, the CT5’s infotainment system has changed the most. It has a 33.0-inch curved touchscreen that crosses the instrument panel and looks more fancy and expensive than the previous model’s small 10.0-inch touchscreen. Along with the new screen, GM has also released its newest infotainment system, which Google drives. For 2025, there will also be a new system to check the driver’s attention, active blind-spot assistance as normal, traffic sign recognition, and a redesigned automated emergency braking system to cut down on accidents at intersections. There’s a new 5G Wi-Fi hotspot available, and AKG, instead of Bose, now tunes the premium audio choice on the CT5. You can now get Deep Space Metallic and Typhoon Metallic as well. Cadillac has only talked about these changes for the CT5 Premium Luxury and Sport models. The 360-hp CT5-V will also get these improvements, and we’ll let you know as soon as we know more.

There is a 335-hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 engine choice for the CT5, but the base engine is a 237-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. The high-performance CT5-V has a 360-hp twin-turbo V-6 engine, an electrically controlled limited-slip differential, and adjustable dampers. A 10-speed automatic gear is paired with each engine. Rear-wheel drive is the standard, while all-wheel drive is a choice. A rear-drive CT5 with a turbo four-cylinder engine got to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds during our test drive. In 4.8 seconds, a CT5-V with rear-wheel drive reached 60 mph. Other cars that compete with the CT5 did the same test in 5.1 seconds for the BMW 330i and 4.6 seconds for the Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti. The basic CT5 doesn’t handle or ride as sportily as the other two cars in its class. It has softer springs and a smoother ride. The V model, on the other hand, has body control and ride-and-handling balance that are at least as good as those of the Bimmer and Alfa.

Back park assist, back cross-traffic alert, and forward collision alert are all standard on all model levels of the car. As an option, you can get more advanced technology, like GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving feature, which lets the car steer, stop, and speed up on most highways without the driver having to touch the wheel. Watch the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) websites to learn more about the CT5’s crash test scores. Some important safety factors are:

  • Most automatic emergency brakes detect road users.
  • Normal exit alarm to keep you in lane.
  • You can get adaptive speed control with a hands-free mode.

The worst interior design flaws in the old CTS were fixed when Cadillac designers made the CT5’s interior. It’s a lot easier to use and move the controls on the new sports car. Now, Cadillac has to fix the problems inside the CT5. The Cadillac’s interior design and materials don’t go together, like the nice open-pore wood next to the cheap black plastic. Its performance against European rivals doesn’t support the CT5’s claim to be a luxury car. The back seat is roomier than in the last CTS. It has almost three inches more headroom than the Alfa Romeo Giulia and the BMW 3-series we just talked about. The trunk of the Cadillac had enough space for five carry-on bags under the back seats. The Alfa and BMW, on the other hand, had two and six cubic feet more space.

The EPA says that the base turbo-four CT5 will get up to 23 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. The 360-hp model gets up to 27 mpg on the highway and 18 mpg in the city, which is a little less than the 335-hp V-6. As part of our strict testing program, the rear-drive Sport type got 31 mpg on our highway fuel-economy test route.

The most up-to-date version of Cadillac’s entertainment system can be seen on the longest 33.0-inch curved touchscreen in front of the driver and the middle of the 2025 Cadillac CT5. These parts are used in both the regular XT4 SUV and the electric Lyriq SUV. Either the touchscreen or the rotary wheel behind the shifter can be used to control the gadget. Basic features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as the ability to charge your phone wirelessly and use it as a hotspot. A nine-speaker stereo is normal, but you can choose an AKG-tuned premium stereo instead.

Because the CT5 has so many traits, we have to suggest two cuts. The Premium Luxury version is a great choice if you want a stylish, reasonably priced, and handy mid-size luxury car. It has a panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, an AKG radio, front seats that are heated, cooled, and massaged, and GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system. However, the CT5-V model is a good choice if you want a sports sedan that can go up against great European cars like the BMW 3-series and Alfa Romeo Giulia on any road.
