Our Opinion - 2025 Kia Telluride Review

What’s new:

The Kia Telluride came out in 2020 to fight with SUVs with three rows of seats, like the Honda Pilot, Subaru Ascent, and Toyota Highlander. The Telluride, on the other hand, quickly went to the top of the charts instead of competing. It has a beautiful outside, an open interior, and a lot of storage room. It’s also fun to drive. The Telluride has been the best SUV in its class for five years in a row, and we have a hard time suggesting another one because it is so well made.

Do you still think that all Kias are cheap? Change the way you think. The Telluride’s interior is about the same quality as the inside of a high-end car that costs twice as much. We’re sure that everything will last for years of rough use because there aren’t many panel gaps, the materials are great, and the building is solid. You’ll get the best of both worlds inside the Telluride, and that’s not even counting the many technological features that make the experience better.

Even though the Telluride is the best in its class overall, other cars can beat it. For example, the Mazda CX-90’s interior feels fancier, and the car’s six-cylinder turbocharged engine makes it even more fun to drive. If you want more space, the Toyota Grand Highlander’s huge size gives you even more for people and things.

How is living with other people?

Invoice drove a Telluride for over 20,000 kilometers and more than a year to test it.

For 2025, there have been no major changes made to the Telluride.

The Telluride all has a naturally aspirated V-6 engine that makes 291 hp and 262 lb-ft of power. All models have all-wheel drive, but this engine is matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission that moves the front wheels. The Telluride has a rough ride, and the three-row SUV sometimes veers off course because the ground isn’t level. It also has an air cushion in the back that can level itself. The brakes work great, and the handling is accurate and has the right amount of weight. The Telluride has up to 8.4 inches of ground clearance, which makes it great for trips off-road.

All Telluride models come with a full set of driver assistance features. There are also a number of high-tech support features available, such as 360-degree cams, automatic high lighting, and what Kia calls a “Blind-Spot View Monitor.” This expert put a picture of the blind spot from the camera on the display in the cluster of gauges. The following are important safety features: 

  • Emergency brakes that operate autonomously, along with standard forward collision warnings. 
  • Normal lane exit warning and help staying in your lane. 
  • Normal monitoring with blind spots.

No matter what you think of the Telluride’s aggressive look, the inside is, without a doubt, classy and comfy, especially in the higher trim levels. It has a lot of functions, beautiful materials, and is very well put together. The most luxurious features are only found on the SX model. The features include a head-up display, heated and ventilated rear seats, a luxurious headliner, Nappa leather upholstery, and memory settings for the driver’s seat. The Telluride trunk is much bigger than the Kia Sorento’s, especially for people in the back seats. This is because the Telluride is a bit longer. Eight people can fit on a bench seat in the second row, and seven people can fit in extra captain’s chairs. We were able to store four carry-on bags behind the third row and, with both back rows folded flat, a total of 35 carry-ons. There was also plenty of space inside the plane for other things.

The Telluride only comes with a gasoline V-6 engine, which is different from some other three-row SUVs. With 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, the EPA says the front-drive version is the most fuel-efficient. This car gets 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway with all-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive Telluride got 26 mpg on our highway fuel-economy test at 75 mph, which was more than the government’s highway number.

Every Telluride comes with a powerful entertainment system that includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen, famous apps like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, in-dash navigation, and Wi-Fi. A 110-volt power inverter, a Harman/Kardon audio system with ten speakers, and wireless charging for smartphones are also included. A feature called “Driver Talk” boosts the driver’s voice-over speakers in the back two seats so that they can better communicate with people in those places or answer the kids’ question, “Are we there yet?”

During our testing, a Telluride X-Line accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds. Some of its turbocharged competitors respond faster to throttle inputs at low speeds than this one. However, it is on par with other medium three-row SUVs in its class. The top-level Mazda CX-90 and the Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid Max are the only ones that are faster than most cars.

The 2024 Kia Telluride can pull up to 5,500 pounds when it comes to X-Pro models. For the other lower levels, the weight that can be carried is the most 5,000 pounds. You don’t have to buy the trailer wiring harness and tow hitch. You can add them later or when you buy the trailer.

The SX trim is the best. It offers a nearly high-class experience and all the features you need at a fair price. The SX has 20-inch black-painted wheels, a Harman/Kardon sound system, front and back sunroofs, and captain’s seats in the second row. The driver’s seat can be adjusted in 12 ways. For people who want the extra safety it offers, all-wheel drive can be added for an extra $2,000.
