Our Opinion - 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Review

It’s easy to find both high-end luxury SUVs and SUVs that can go off-road. But the 2025 Land Rover Range Rover is a great choice if you want a car that has the best of both worlds. Along with its impressive exterior, the Range Rover has a luxurious cabin that gets better with time. The ride is so smooth that you won’t even remember how strong the big SUV is on rough ground. There are smart drive modes that take care of the settings, so you don’t need to be an expert four-wheeler rider to go into the woods. All of this rough luxury, though, costs a lot—starting in the six figures. This is like the Mercedes-Benz G-class, which is Rover’s main rival. We also chose the Land Rover Range Rover as an Editors’ Choice for 2025. It is one of our top picks in its class.

In the SE grade of the V-8 standard wheelbase (SWB), the Dynamic Response Proactive roll control is no longer included. However, the Meridian surround sound system has been improved. The 550e plug-in hybrid powertrain is now in the SWB body. The tailgate seats and full-size spare tire are gone from PHEV Autobiography cars. PHEV vehicles also don’t come with a tow pack or 23-inch wheels. The Activity Key band is no longer available, the Perlino white headliner doesn’t cover the roof pillars, and LED treadplates are now standard on all models.

One of the Range Rover’s four engine choices is the P400, a turbocharged inline-six with a 48-volt hybrid system that makes 395 horsepower. It was smooth and strong enough to pull the big Range Rover around on our first test drive. The 4.4-liter V-8 twin-turbo engine in the Range Rover is even faster. It has 523 horsepower and can pull up to 8200 pounds. This engine is known as the P530 by Land Rover. The most powerful SV has a 606-hp V-8 engine, which is called the P615. There is also a 542-hp plug-in hybrid option, which is called the P550e, but it’s only offered on short-wheelbase models. When the Range Rover is in Comfort mode, its changeable air suspension makes the ride so smooth that it seems to float over the road. The big Rover still puts comfort first, but when you switch to Dynamic mode, things get a little rougher. You should also have serious off-road skills.

The Range Rover has some of Land Rover’s more modern driver-assistance tools, like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. The following are important safety features:

  • Typical automated emergency braking recognizes people.
  • Lane-keeping assistance and standard lane departure warning.
  • It comes with adaptive speed control.

As with previous models, the inside of this newest Range Rover is luxurious, with lots of leather and wood. But owners who want a more eco-friendly cabin can now choose a new choice that doesn’t use leather and instead uses wool or other fabrics that look like leather. The cabin can fit four, five, or seven people, depending on how it is set up and how long the wheels are. Tall people may find it hard to sit in the third row, even in long-wheelbase models, because there isn’t much headroom. However, kids and shorter riders will find it almost as comfortable as the second row. The Range Rover’s split rear liftgate can be used as useful and comfy seating for activities outside. An optional motorized cargo barrier keeps things from moving around too much while the driver is on the road. Up to 83.5 cubes of cargo can be stored in SWB models, and 40.7 cubes can be stored behind the back seats. Long-wheelbase cars can hold more than 92.8 cubic feet of stuff but only 8.7 cubic feet behind the third row.

The base P400 gets 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, while the V-8-powered P530 should get 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. Both the P400 and the P530 got 23 mpg on our highway fuel-economy test route at 75 mph. After the battery dies, the plug-in hybrid P550e should get 21 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.

All of the versions come with a new curved 13.1-inch navigation screen with Land Rover’s newest Pivi Pro interface. Amazon’s Alexa speech assistant is part of the technology, as are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which work without wires. There is a 13.7-inch digital gauge display, SiriusXM satellite radio, and wireless charging for smartphones. Navigation is built into the dash. There is a Meridian sound system with 35 speakers and noise-canceling technology built into the headrests. There is also an entertainment system in the back seats with two 11.4-inch screens.

The EPA has not yet released official range figures for the plug-in hybrid P550e, but Land Rover says that the system’s 31.8-kWh battery pack would allow the car to go about 51 miles on electricity alone. You can charge the P550e using a home charger or DC fast charging. At its fastest charge rate of 50 kW, the battery will be charged from empty to 80% capacity in less than an hour.

How much the 2025 Land Rover Range Rover costs will depend on the type and any extras that come with it. We suggest the intermediate Autobiography model because it has a few extras that expensive clients would really like. For instance, the Autobiography comes with a 1600-watt Meridian music system that blocks out noise and has speakers on the headrests. The Range Rover comes in both short and long-wheelbase body styles. The long wheelbase style is better because it has more space for cargo and a third row of seats.
