Our Opinion - 2024 Land Rover discovery sport Review

In the small vehicle market, the 2024 Discovery Sport has a more adventurous image than its rivals, though it doesn’t have the Range Rover’s level of luxury. It has an off-road cruise control system, a unique exterior camera system that works best in tight spaces, and all-wheel drive with drive modes that are tailored to different types of terrain. There is only one engine choice, a four-cylinder supercharged engine that makes enough power, if not too much. But the Disco Sport’s off-road attitude comes at the cost of its smoothness on the road. The Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, the BMW X3, and the Porsche Macan are some other cars in this class that offer better refinement and driver happiness.

Land Rover has made changes to the Discovery Sport for 2024. It now has new tire shapes, a better air purification system, and a better camera system on the outside. The addition of a new 11.4-inch infotainment tablet is the most important change. This curvy glass panel has been on JLR cars in the past, like the Discovery and Defender models that are bigger. It now comes with a digital gauge display, a wireless charging pad for smartphones, and USB-C charge ports on the Discovery Sport. The steering wheel and center panel have also been changed. There are now only two trim options for the little Land Rover instead of four, and the price starts at more than $50,000. The prices of both trim versions went up.

The engine in every Discovery Sport is a four-cylinder supercharged unit that makes 246 horsepower. It goes without saying that the Sport’s all-wheel-drive system and available trail-rated equipment make it better at handling rough terrain and bad weather. Do you dare? The Disco Sport can walk through up to 23.6 inches of water and pull up to 4409 pounds. This car sped up from 0 to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds on our test track. You won’t be excited about winding back roads because the handling is different. It’s great that the Discovery Sport is a nice cruise boat.

Land Rover has many safety features, such as high-tech video systems and a basic set of driver and safety assistance features. This one has adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking with front impact warning, lane-keeping assist, and other features. The Discovery Sport keeps the brand’s high-class image by having a panel that looks like the ones in more expensive and flashy Land Rovers. There are now more seating choices in the cabin, and the materials used are better for the environment. Our test car’s seats were comfortable enough for a few four-hour or longer trips across the country. Base models come well-equipped with heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a fixed glass panoramic roof, dual-zone automatic climate control, faux-leather upholstery, and 12-way power-adjustable front seats. You can add a pair of third-row jump seats as an extra. Behind the second row, the Discovery Sport has room for up to 28 cubic feet of stuff. The Cadillac XT5’s 30-cubic-foot rear room is bigger than this one, even though it has three more cubes than the Audi Q5.

The Discovery Sport will get 19 mpg in the city, 23 mpg on the highway, and 20 mpg total, according to the EPA. Compared to other high-end small SUVs, the Land Rover needs more gas. At 75 miles per hour, it got only 21 miles per gallon on our speed test. We tested the BMW X3 M40i and found that it only got 29 mpg. Other cars with all-wheel drive, like the Acura RDX, got 25 mpg.

All Discovery Sport models include an 11.4-inch tablet for entertainment. It has Land Rover’s newest Pivi Pro interface and a digital gauge display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are built-in wireless entertainment systems. A head-up display and a mobile hotspot are also available as options. A high-end Meridian sound system comes with every model.

Even though the Core S is the base form for the Discovery Sport, we would stick with it. It offers many nice features and comforts, like a digital gauge display, power front seats, a Meridian audio system, and a panoramic glass roof. We would choose the Comfort package, which includes a system to clean the air inside the car, climate controls in the back, and ambient lighting inside.
