2025 Cadillac XT5 Overview

What’s new:

  • Much will remain unchanged in 2024.
  • Part of the first wave of XT5s, which came out in 2017.

The XT5 might be the best choice for you if the XT4 is too small and you don’t need the extra rows of seats in the XT6. It’s a medium luxury SUV, but because it’s so small, it’s more of a between-size SUV. The XT5 is bigger and costs about the same as compact rivals like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3. It is smaller and costs less than midsize competitors like the Genesis GV80. The XT5 has lost ground to other cars, even though it has some good points. Ending in 2024 is the most probable year.

There have been rumors that the XT5 might not be offered in the US until 2024, but this has not been proven. For the time being, the only market for the next-gen Cadillac XT5 is China. Cadillac wants to become an all-electric brand by 2030, so it is reducing the number of gasoline-powered cars it makes. If Cadillac makes an electric SUV that is about the same size as the XT5, the XT5 might lose its spot in their SUV range. The sole electric vehicle offered by Cadillac at the moment is the Lyriq SUV.  But in 2024, the Escalade IQ and the high-end Celestiq sedan will join it.

The XT5 has mostly stayed the same since it came out for the first time in 2017. Since then, most of its competitors have had big redesigns that have made them stronger. So, the best thing to do is look at the XT5’s rivals, like the newly redesigned Lexus RX, which is about the same size and cost. The Genesis GV80 is a great choice if you want something a little bigger and fancier, even though it costs less. The BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC are two other small cars that you should think about. For a complete perspective, read our test team’s review of the XT5 in the “Expert Rating” section below.

Pros

  • There is a lot of room for your legs and head in the front and back.
  • Its price is lower than that of competing midsize SUVs.

 Cons

  • It’s hard to see what’s behind you because of the mirrors and small windows.
  • There is little room on planes for small things.
  • Only a little room for a large SUV’s stuff.
  • The outside world is making just too much noise.

How do you like to drive the XT5? The speed of the Cadillac XT5 is good enough for everyday driving. In our test car, there was all-wheel drive and a V6 engine. The V6 engine is strong, but you will have to press down hard on the gas pedal to get it going. Invoice Pricing says that it takes a medium luxury SUV about that long to reach 60 mph, which is how long our test XT5 did. The gearbox downshifts as necessary, and shifting is a breeze.

The XT5 follows the rules and works well around turns. As an SUV, it doesn’t make you want to look for winding roads, but it can handle them when you do.

How much comfort does the XT5 offer? The XT5 is as comfy as any other luxury car in this competitive class. The seat is comfortable, and the ride is smooth. On normal trips, the ride is smooth and stable, and the front seats can be adjusted in a number of ways and have enough support.

The three-zone temperature control is useful, even though it takes a while to get going. There are no differences between the warm and cool seats. The XT5 should be quieter, especially when going slowly, which is strange. Sounds from the engine, internal panels creaking, and some wind noise can be heard all over town.

How is the inside? Simple settings make it easy to use, and the inside looks nice. The 8-inch monitor in Cadillac is too small for a luxury car right now. It’s not always easy to press certain buttons, but having volume and menu settings makes it easier to use.

The XT5’s small back window and rear three-quarter view are the main places where the design makes it hard to see. One of the best things about the XT5 is that it has a blind spot and back cross-traffic alert. The front seats of the XT5 have a lot of head and legroom, but the trunk is much roomier, especially around the knees.

How does the tech work? For a vehicle in its class, the XT5 has respectable entertainment and technological capabilities. For instance, connecting via Bluetooth is easy and clear, and the optional 14-speaker Bose music system makes loud, clear sounds. More than that, the XT5 has many charging ports for your devices.

The built-in voice directions could be better, so we suggest connecting your phone via Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Cadillac comes with many modern safety features as normal. However, some, like adaptive cruise control, cost extra.

How are things with storage? The XT5’s main cargo area folds flat and is big enough to hold most things. It has one of the roomiest interiors of any two-row midsize luxury SUV. However, the storage floor’s liftover height is too high. You can set the height of the opening on the electric liftgate.

Small things can’t be stored because there isn’t enough space, especially in front of the house. There aren’t many pockets in the doors, and the center desk isn’t as big inside as it looks. The front and back cupholders are only big enough for a drink can. Even though the bolts are deep in the chair cracks, it’s easy to get to the car seat. The most weight that can be pulled behind it is 3,500 pounds, even with the extra tow package. This is different from the norm.

How much fuel does it use? The type of Cadillac XT5 AWD with V6 that we tried gets 21 mpg on the highway, which is near the bottom of the range for small to medium-sized crossover SUVs. Our test XT5 got an average of 20.2 mpg in the real world. The EPA’s expectations are close to what we expect them to be, so they should be taken seriously.

How much is the XT5 worth? Adding choices to the XT5 can raise the price, but this is normal for high-end SUVs. The XT5 is pretty good value for what you get. The materials inside feel better than in earlier models, and the outside looks fancier, but the prices are still lower than most of their European rivals. The guarantee is about the same as those of our competitors.

The XT5 is a sleek SUV that stays true to Cadillac’s design concept from the past. Even though the styling of the newer XT6 looks much more modern, it is similar to the XT5. It makes you think of Cadillac’s high-end image. These SUVs are fun to drive when you want to pick up the pace, and they work well every day.

There are some optional packages that the Luxury trim doesn’t have, but the Premium Luxury trim does. It also comes with a lot more basic features than the base Luxury trim. With the Premium Luxury package, you can also get the V6 engine. The Technology package has extra technical features that make it a good choice. It would help if you had it to get the more expensive Platinum or Driver Assist packages as well.
