Our Opinion - 2025 Hyundai Elantra Review

While most small sedans could be more interesting, the Hyundai Elantra stands out because of its low price, roomy interior, and, based on your taste, unique look. These qualities are good enough to appeal to a wide range of users, but if you’re reading this, you probably want something more: performance. Luckily, the Elantra N (not to be confused with the Elantra N Line, which is the sportiest version of the base normal Elantra) does just that. It has up to 286 horsepower, a sport-tuned suspension, and a six-speed manual transmission as standard (an automatic transmission is available as an option). The Elantra N looks different from the regular Elantra because it has a black diffuser, lower bumper, rear wing, and hood. This is, without a doubt, one of the most appealing driver choices in its class, even though it’s not the only one. Think about the Volkswagen Jetta GLI, the Honda Civic Si, and the Mazda 3. People with more money might be convinced to choose the Civic Type R or Toyota GR Corolla as their hot hatchback.

The Elantra N will not change or improve in 2025, even though it underwent many improvements and changes last year.

Pros

  • A lot of tools for the price.
  • Excellent scores for safety and features.
  • Elantra N is a very athletic car.

Cons

  • Not particularly refined, with a sluggish standard engine.
  • Obvious signs of cost-cutting.
  • The Honda Civic remains superior.

This car’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine is used in the Elantra N. The Hyundai Veloster N hatchback will no longer be made after 2022. In the Veloster N, that engine makes 275 horsepower. In the Elantra N, however, N Grin Shift, a firm-developed over-boost technology, gives it 286 horsepower. Because of this, the Elantra N performs much better than the Jetta GLI, even though both cars are about the same price. We’re excited to say that you can choose between a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Elantra N has a loud exhaust sound, handles well, and responds quickly to the throttle. Plus, we saw that even though the Elantra N has a longer wheelbase than the Veloster N, it still handles well, which is something we look for in a sports car. The more time we spend with the Elantra N, the more we see that it is one of the best hot sport compacts on the market.

Interestingly, adaptive cruise control isn’t a standard function, but a lot of other driver-assistance technologies are. Some important safety features could be:

  • Typical automated emergency braking recognizes people.
  • Standard lane exit warning and help staying in your lane.
  • Standard blind-spot detection with back cross-traffic alert.

The more powerful Elantra N is a lot like the dramatic cabin design of the regular Elantra, which looks and feels like a pilot. Leather-trimmed sport seats with strong bolsters, metal-accented pedals, and a smattering of N logos contribute to the sportier appearance. The trunk can hold more things than the Veloster N, and the back seats can fit more people. If you pick the automatic gearbox, you can get a sunroof.

In city driving, the Elantra N gets 20 mpg, and on the highway, it gets 27 mpg. In city driving, it gets 21 mpg, and on the highway, it gets 29 mpg. The Elantra N with the manual transmission got better gas mileage than the EPA predicted, getting 32 mpg on our 75 mph highway fuel economy route. The model with the automatic transmission got an amazing 37 mpg.

The Elantra’s all-digital dashboard is carried over to the N model. It has a big 10.3-inch digital gauge display and a 10.3-inch infotainment panel that is slightly tilted toward the driver. A Wi-Fi hotspot, in-dash navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are all standard options.

We timed an Elantra N with an eight-speed automatic transmission and saw it go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and through a quarter-mile course in 13.4 seconds, with a top speed of 106 mph.

The N is fully ready and has a great attitude. Many technological and safety features improve its performance compared to the normal Elantra, but buyers can only choose from a few paint colors and an automatic or manual transmission. We would choose the stick.
