Our Opinion - 2025 Volvo V60 Review

Even though they aren’t very common, the leftover station wagons are very appealing because they are both stylish and useful. These include Volvo’s V60 and V60 Cross Country, which are great options for many high-end SUVs. They have a clean look, a lot of space for goods, and are fun to drive. The Cross Country model has a higher frame and all-wheel drive as standard, which gives it more capabilities and an SUV-like look. The Polestar Engineered model, on the other hand, is a strong plug-in hybrid with great acceleration that puts speed first. These Volvos are stylish, classy, and comfy, and because they are so rare, they are also one-of-a-kind. It’s no surprise that the Volvo V60 and V60 Cross Country made our 2025 Editors’ Choice list. They are two of our favorites in their class.

The Cross Country’s top trim level is now called Ultra, but the V60 hasn’t changed much for 2025. The paint colors that can be bought now have also changed.

Pros

  • The speed of plug-in cars.
  • A design that is both simple and charming.
  • Wagons in an era dominated by SUVs.

Cons

  • The price of the Polestar Engineered model.
  • The V60 Cross Country doesn’t work very well.
  • There is more space in some smaller SUVs.

The Cross Country model has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 247 hp and all-wheel drive. The V60 Cross Country has a quick engine, and as long as you don’t push it too hard, it feels stable and quick around town. A turbocharged four-cylinder engine and electric motors work together in the new Recharge T8 Polestar to make 455 horsepower and 523 pound-feet of torque. Also, all-wheel drive comes as standard. Also, the Recharge T8 Polestar has dampers that can be adjusted by hand, which car fans may like. This lets the person driving the car change the way it rides to suit their tastes.

Volvo puts safety first, so all of their cars come with basic driver-assistance systems like automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and other technologies that help keep cars from colliding. The following are important safety features:

  • Typical automated emergency braking recognizes people.
  • Lane-keeping assistance and standards lane departure warning.
  • Adaptive cruise control and a semi-autonomous drive mode are both available.

The V60’s cabin has just as many luxurious features as the S60 car and XC60 SUV. Volvo is known for its great interior design. The wagon’s interior is roomy, the seats are soft, and the style is clearly high-end. Because Volvos are designed to be simple, a lot of the settings are hidden under the infotainment screen. Good materials, like soft leather, real wood, and metal trim, make the inside look and feel more expensive than it is. A station wagon can carry a lot of stuff. We were able to fit eight carry-on bags behind the back seats, and 22 with the seats folded down during our tests. In both tests, the Audi A4 Allroad had less space for two people than the other cars.

Overall, the Cross Country gets 27 mpg, 31 mpg on the highway, and 24 mpg in the city. The V60 Recharge T8 Polestar is the most performance-oriented car in the lineup, but its plug-in hybrid engine is very fuel-efficient. It gets 74 MPGe, or 31 mpg combined when in hybrid mode, and it can go up to 41 miles on electricity alone. The Polestar V6 T8 eAWD got 86 MPGe and could go 540 miles on a single tank of gas. The Cross Country B5 V60 got only 29 mpg on our 75-mph interstate fuel-economy test route.

Both the V60 and the V60 Cross Country come with Volvo’s Google navigation system. The new interface responds faster to inputs, but it still has the same 9.0-inch tablet that was placed vertically in the old Sensus Connect system. However, the on-screen icons for the interface are too small to use while moving. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are normal features, along with Bluetooth and a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot powered by a 4G LTE data connection.

Our tests showed that the V60 Cross Country could hit 60 mph in 7.1 seconds. In the sprint, the Polestar Engineered model is much faster, coming in at 4.1 seconds.

There are a lot of different models and options that can change how much the 2025 Volvo V60/V60 Cross Country costs. Our favorite model is the faster Recharge T8 Polestar Engineered version, which doesn’t have the Cross Country’s higher suspension or SUV-style parts and instead has a more performance-focused look. The ride is a little rough, but we’re ready to put up with that for the T8 powertrain’s extra power and ability to run on electricity alone. If the Polestar doesn’t work well for you, feel free to choose the Cross Country instead. You should do both of these things.
