Our Opinion - 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Review When it comes to regularly towing and moving huge loads, trucks like the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado HD are the best. The Silverado HD has been a worker for a long time, and now it comes in off-road versions like the Trail Boss and ZR2. You can get an extra 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V-8 engine that changes the Silverado’s personality and lets it pull up to 36,000 pounds. A strong 6.6-liter fuel V-8 engine is the base engine. A 10-speed Allison automatic gear is linked to both diesel and gasoline engines. Customers can choose between four-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive. Adding a second axle increases the vehicle’s ability to move and tow more weight. The Silverado’s High Country trim feels more businesslike than the Ford Super Duty and Ram HD’s high-end options, but it also has the most features of any car the company makes. But the Silverado HD doesn’t skimp on features that can make driving less stressful. For example, it has multiple camera views to help with hitching and adaptive cruise control that is set up to work with a trailer. What's New? Now, you can get the Trail Boss package on the 2025 Chevy Silverado HD models. The LT and LTX trims are used to make the Trail Boss. It has an off-road suspension, special 20-inch wheels, and other trim-specific looks, but it’s not as fully off-road as the Silverado 2500HD ZR2. The only small changes to the rest of the HD range were adaptive cruise control as standard on the High Country, a new Black-Out package on the Custom, new 20-inch wheels on the Midnight Edition, and available front and rear parking sensors on the Work Truck, Custom, and LT trim levels. Pros and Cons Pros Excellent for towing and hauling. Elegantly designed, high-quality interior on upper trims. Durable new Trail Boss and the adventurous ZR2. Cons The entry-level trims lack a modern and stylish interior. The base gas engine fails to impress beyond basic performance. Certain features available in the Silverado 1500 are missing. Engine, Transmission, and Performance The Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD both come with a 6.6-liter V-8 gas engine as standard. The available Duramax diesel 6.6-liter V-8 engine has 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, which is twice as much torque as the gas engine’s highest tow rating. However, the gas engine’s 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque are still enough. Either a single or double rear-wheel axle, an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission, and either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive can work with either engine. The diesel engine is better for people who tow or haul a lot, but the gas engine is also fine. In spite of having an electric assist system, the heavy-duty Silverado was still hard to turn accurately and with enough input. While the big Chevy has a lot of great features that help it do amazing things, it also rides very well. When we drove the ZR2 Bison model off-road in California’s Johnson Valley, we were blown away by how well it did on the trails and how comfortable it was on the road. Safety There are a number of driver-assistance features and technologies built into every Silverado HD that make pulling a trailer easy. A helpful multiview camera system has a transparent mode that lets the driver see right through the trailer. This makes it easier to turn in parking lots and move onto highways while towing. The following are essential safety features: The vehicle is equipped with automatic emergency braking and forward collision warnings. Additionally, it includes a rear cross-traffic alert system and blind-spot monitoring for enhanced awareness. Furthermore, adaptive speed control is available as an option. Internal and External Cargo Capacity The heavy-duty Silverado can be anything from a crew cab to a work truck without the cab. Each has a big dashboard with settings that are easy to use. With a longer wheelbase than the last version, the Chevy’s crew-cab, short-box layout gives you more room for passengers, and people in the back seats now have their own climate controls and vents. Even the most expensive models can’t match the complexity and quality of the materials in the Ram HD, but the Silverado’s features and cabin go above and beyond what you’d expect from a luxury truck. Front seats that are heated and cooled, heated back seats, a head-up display, and more are some of the most-wanted features. The Chevy has a lot of storage space inside, with the biggest bin being in the center console. There may also be storage space behind the back seat and bins built into the backs of the rear seat pillows in some models. Fuel Economy and Actual MPG The EPA doesn’t test cars that heavy, so we can only compare the Silverado HD and its big rivals’ real-world mpg on our 75 mph highway fuel economy route. The 2024 Silverado 2500 Duramax diesel got an average of 18 mpg in our tests. Infotainment and Connectivity Chevy’s Google-based entertainment system works with all Silverado HD touchscreens. This system comes with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard. The screen can be touched, and it also has a volume and tuning knob, a few physical buttons, and voice instructions. The infotainment system lets users save different accounts for each trailer, which can be used to keep an eye on maintenance and even control the trailer from a smartphone app. The LT, LTZ, Road Boss, High Country, and ZR2 trims all come with a bigger 13.4-inch tablet and a wireless charging pad for your phone. Range, Charging, and Battery Life The 2024 Silverado 2500 with the Duramax diesel engine ran great. It went from 0 to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds. Towing and Payload Capacity Heavy-duty trucks are all rated by how much they can pull and how much they can carry. The Silverado HD with a diesel engine can pull up to 36,000 pounds, while the Silverado HD with a fuel engine can pull up to 17,400 pounds. There is a standard cab and a double rear-wheel drive on the most powerful Silverado 3500HD. It can weigh up to 7442 pounds. Price and How to Choose Between $47,295 and $74,895, the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD can vary in price based on trim and options. The Silverado 2500HD LT with crew cab and standard cargo bed is the model we like best. We would add four-wheel drive, the Duramax diesel engine, and the Z71 Off-Road package (18-inch wheels, all-terrain tires, spray-in bedliner, upgraded suspension, and underbody protection) to make the package complete and useful. The Convenience package is a good deal since it comes with a 10-way power driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, LED lighting in the cargo bed, a heated steering wheel, remote start, and more.
