Our Opinion - 2026 Chevrolet Suburban Review The 2026 Chevrolet Suburban is built on the same platform as the Tahoe SUV and the Silverado 1500 pickup truck. All three can pull similar loads and carry similar amounts of cargo. The Suburban and Tahoe, on the other hand, have three rows of seats that can accommodate up to nine people, whereas the pickup truck has only two. The Suburban has a large trunk, but even with the back row of seats full, adults can’t fit easily in any of the rows. The most expensive Suburbans are becoming increasingly close to luxury cars, while the base model remains very basic and is better suited for rental cars. As an option, you can choose a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that is more powerful or a turbodiesel inline-six engine that uses less fuel. The main engine is a 5.3-liter V-8 that runs on gasoline. What's New? There shouldn’t be any significant changes in 2026, as the only thing that changed was the appearance of the Suburban. Pros and Cons Pros The interior is quite spacious. The whole range of modern features. You can go on a Super Cruise. Cons The low fuel economy of the V-8 engine. The easy-to-reach 24-inch wheels make the ride bad. Having blonde hair. Engine, Transmission, and Performance You can choose to have a 6.2-liter V-8 engine with 420 horsepower, but a 5.3-liter V-8 engine with 355 horsepower is standard. There is also a 3.0-liter inline-six diesel engine with 305 horsepower, which offers good fuel economy and impressive torque. All three engine options are offered, and each can be paired with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, along with a 10-speed automatic transmission. There are also changeable air suspension and adaptive dampers that can be added to the Suburban. The second one allows you to adjust the ride height of the big SUV both manually and automatically. This allows for increased ground clearance, improved aerodynamics, and easier passenger entry. The Z71 off-road model has a two-speed transfer case, regular four-wheel drive, underbody skid plates, and 20-inch all-terrain tires. It looks tough. During our first test drive of the 2025 Suburban, we noticed that, despite its size, it is very easy to drive, thanks in large part to its smooth diesel engine. Safety The Suburban is equipped with several standard driver-assistance systems. The LT, RST, Premier, and High Country are the only types that come with GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving feature. The following are important safety features: Normal automatic emergency stopping can distinguish between a biker and a pedestrian. Standard lane exit warning and help keep you in your lane. The adaptive speed control built-in lets you drive without using your hands. Internal and External Cargo Capacity In the Suburban, one of the largest SUVs, there is a spacious cabin that can accommodate both people and cargo. The majority of models feature three rows of seats, accommodating up to eight people. The second-row seats can be moved forward and backward to change the size of the passenger area. Thanks to generous headroom, nearly all passengers can find a comfortable seating position, even in the third row. Behind the third row, there is a spacious cargo area that can easily accommodate all of your family’s road trip gear. The load floor is low and level, making it easier to load and unload than floors with greater height. Even though entry-level cars are usually less fancy than high-end ones, Chevy equips them with useful features like multiple power outlets, automatic climate control, second and third-row seats that are easy to fold down, and more. The High Country is the most luxurious version. It features unique color schemes inside, beautiful wood trim, and leather seats with perforations. Fuel Economy and Actual MPG Diesel models got as many as 21 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg combined on the 2025 model, while regular models got as many as 15 mpg in the city, 20 mpg on the highway, and 17 mpg combined. There is still no information available from the EPA regarding the fuel efficiency of the 2026 Suburban. We can determine a Suburban’s real-world mpg by testing it on our 75-mph highway, which is part of our rigorous testing program. The 27 mpg it achieved on our highway route when we tried a Tahoe, the “Burbank’s” little brother, with a diesel six-engine, shows how much better it is at saving fuel than gas engines. A Suburban with this engine would not do much worse than the Tahoe diesel, which gets one more mile per gallon on the highway. Infotainment and Connectivity There are two of them on the dashboard of every Suburban for people who want big TVs. The main screen is a bigger 17.7-inch infotainment screen, and in front of the driver is a cover for an 11.0-inch digital instrument panel. To make it easy to get to system features, the main screen is slightly tilted toward the driver. A Wi-Fi hotspot, a wireless charging pad for your phone, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are some of the basic features. A Bose radio and an entertainment system for the back seats are options. Range, Charging, and Battery Life We haven’t tried it yet, but the 2026 Suburban should be capable of reaching speeds comparable to those of earlier models. An 8.4-second diesel Suburban and a 6.1-second V-8 Suburban both reached 60 mph in our tests. Towing and Payload Capacity By adding the Max Trailering package available at an additional cost rear-wheel-drive Suburbans equipped with the 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V8 engine can tow up to 8,300 pounds. The diesel Suburban with four-wheel drive can only pull 7800 pounds, which is the least of the models in this range. Price and How to Choose The 2026 Chevrolet Suburban is expected to cost between $65,000 and $84,000, depending on the selected options and specifications. The RST is our choice because it boasts a sporty appearance with its blacked-out outer trim and 22-inch wheels. A power liftgate, leather seats in the first and second rows, heated front seats with memory settings, and a Bose radio are all standard. We’d choose the diesel inline-six engine over the other two because it has smooth power and uses less gas.
