Our Opinion - 2022 Chevy Blazer Review

As a starting point, let’s focus on the positive qualities of Blazer. Still, the Blazer RS stands out. Sporty Blazer RS models haven’t lost their appeal since their debut four years ago because of their 308-horsepower six-cylinder engine, finely calibrated suspension and steering, and special AWD system.

However, what about the additional trims? They’re not all that horrible, really. Because of the limited cargo capacity, we have our doubts about the Blazer’s cabin. The cabin’s buttons & controls are cramped and awkward because of poor material quality. The Blazer’s 8.0-inch touchscreen screen is also being retained by Chevy, despite the fact that rival midsize SUVs are being equipped with screens that are triple digits in size.

Even if the Blazer has a turbocharged engine, it still performs quite well. A 3LT trial of a turbo four-cylinder Blazer provided us with accurate handling, a compliant ride, and a well-automatic transmission that made for an enjoyable drive. The Blazer, meanwhile, is still as eye-catching as ever. To be delighted by the Blazer, you don’t have to be in an RS, but an emotional appeal has to be a component if you are intrigued by this Chevrolet over some of the alternatives.

Chevron

  • The 2.5-liter normally aspirated engine, as well as the L & 1LT lesser trim levels, have been phased out.
  • There are now two-tone exterior paint options for the 2LT, 3LT, and the superb RS versions.
  • Nitro Yellow Metallic & Blue Glow Metallic are two new exterior colors.
  • Tow packages for the 2.0-liter engine are now included with AWD and optional with FWD.

Pros:

  • A 308-hp V-6 engine is available.
  • A two-toned exterior option is available.
  • Camaro styling influences the RS model.

Cons:

  • Half-cooked interior.
  • Space for cargo is below average.

FWD and a turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 with 228 horsepower are standard on the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer (AWD is available). In addition to the 3LT & Premier models, the sporty Blazers RS boasts a 308-hp naturally aspirated V-6 with AWD. Automatic transmissions are standard in all Blazers.

Some 2022 Blazer options can achieve respectable fuel efficiency even without the 2.5-liter engine from the base vehicle introduced in 2021. The 2022 Blazer with a supercharged FWD has had the best fuel efficiency, with 22/29 mpg city/highway for the turbine and FWD model. FWD Volkswagen Atlas Crossing Sport’s 2.0-liter turbo engine gets 22/29 mpg city/highway, while FWD Hyundai Santa Fe’s 2.5-liter turbo engine gets 22/28 mpg city/highway.

Choosing the V-6 engine results in EPA estimates of 19/27 mpg in front-wheel drive and 19/26 mpg in all-wheel drive.

Chevy’s Safety Assist package will be standard on all Blazer models starting in 2022, which makes sense given the discontinuation of last year’s entry-level trims. Automated emergency stopping, lane centering, and a departure warning are all included in this set, as are automated headlights. There is an optional Driver Assurance II package that includes adaptive cruise control for RS & Premier models, although it is only available on the 3LT level.

The room under Blazer’s rear door is on the short side, even though it’s acceptable for trips to the store. You receive 1.5 cubic meters more space in the middle row of seats than you do in the Toyota Entry. Other models, such as the Honda Passport & Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport, feature more than 40 cubic feet of cargo space. each.

Legroom in the Blazer, Venza, & Passport is very similar. The Blazer has a slight edge over the Toyota and Honda, with a longer wheelbase of 41 inches. Unlike the Venza, the Blazer & Passport both have 39.6 inches of back legroom.

This year’s Chevy Blazer has a painted roof option, and we’re big lovers of it. Midnight, Sport, and Redline Edition packages for the Blazer LT include black-painted roofs. The Blazer RS can also be equipped with the feature.

Chevy refreshes the design of the Blazer Premier with new rims and dark lower fascias, rockers, and wheel moldings on the front and back. The Blazer’s latest available hues, Nitro Yellow Metal and Blue Glow Metallic would look great with black exterior details.
