2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV Overview

There will be significant interior and exterior changes for the Chevrolet Bolt EV in 2022. For the 2022 model year, Chevrolet is bringing back the Bolt electric hatchback in big ways.

The powertrain in both cars has been carried over from the 2022 model year. The Bolt EUV lineup has expanded with the addition of a larger SUV-styled model.

Look past the Bolt EV’s radical new looks in 2022 to find the most surprising changes. As a direct competitor to the Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Kona Electric, and other electric vehicles. With a considerable price decrease, a two-way charging wire, and revamped front aesthetics, the new Bolt EV seeks to attract buyers.

The Bolt EUV’s wheelbase has been extended by 2.9 inches for more rear legroom in the 2022 model, making it 6.3 inches longer than the Bolt EV. The redesigned Bolt EV for 2022 features a new exterior and interior, as well as improved technology.

Although the twins’ architecture is similar, there isn’t any shared sheet metal on the outside, according to Chevy. A larger model, the Bolt EUV 2022, has been added to the Bolt lineup as the most significant development.

The Bolt EUV has a longer roofline and a thicker liftgate when equipped with standard roof rails. The back bowtie badge is crossed by sequential indicators and LED taillights. The Bolt EV’s hatchback proportions are gone in favor of something more like a crossover. The Bolt EUV’s DRLs look like bedazzled eyebrows penciled in, but the front lip sports a thicker walrus mustache than the previous model.

A bowtie atop an imperial mustache is all that’s visible thanks to the car’s slim daytime running lights. The Bolt EV’s most striking exterior change is its new vertical grille and LED headlights.

Tesla Model Y crossovers, and Ford Mustang Mach-E, and the Nissan Leaf hatchback, compete with the electric twins. The Bolt EUV, a larger compact crossover, will join the redesigned 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV as a pure electric hatchback.

A forward-distance indicator and lane-keep assist are included in the Bolt EV’s base trim, making it the most affordable option. The NHTSA and IIHS have not yet given a rating to the 2022 model.

The 2LT trim adds an HD surround-view camera system to the list of standard safety features. The $495 Driver Confidence Package includes blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert in addition to this feature.

Only the Bolt EUV comes standard with GM Super Cruise, the automaker’s hands-free driving assistance system, which includes adaptive cruise control.

The 1LT trim now starts at $31,995, down from the previous $35,195 starting price. State plug-in rebates, such as the California Clean Vehicle Rebate, provide a post-purchase incentive of up to $2,000 in additional savings.

The Bolt no longer qualifies for a tax credit under federal law. There are two levels of Bolt EV trim. Because of this reduction in cost, the Bolt may now be a more appealing option for some buyers.

A carryover electric drivetrain from last year’s model powers the Bolt EV. According to estimates from the Environmental Protection Agency, the engine is capable of propelling the hatchback to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds. The 65-kilowatt-hour battery pack enables a range of 259 miles and an efficiency rating of 120 miles per gallon equivalent.

For plug styles 1 and 2, a new dual-level charge cord is available. The Bolt can be charged in 30 minutes or less using DC Fast Charging stations. About seven hours of charging time are required with a 240-volt outlet.

Despite the new looks, the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV will be the same size as the model it replaces: a five-door hatchback.

The legroom in the back seat is 36 inches, and the headroom is generous at 37.9 inches thanks to the vehicle’s high roofline. It has a short 263-inch length and a long 102.4-inch wheelbase.

With the seat backs folded, the cargo area expands to 57 cubic feet, or 16.6 cubic feet more. Both of which contribute to a 34.8-foot turning circle that’s suitable for city driving.

The Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus system powers the 10.2-inch touchscreen display that comes standard on all trims. Wireless device charging is part of this package, as are two additional charging ports for passengers in the back.

For a fee of $595, the 2LT Infotainment Package includes a seven-speaker Bose audio system. SiriusXM, Bluetooth, and 4G LTE are all included in this package.

The Chevrolet Bolt EV for 2022 has the same disappointing feature set as previous models:

The Bolt EV is available in two trim levels, the LT and Premier, both of which feature a crisp, bright 10.2-inch touchscreen as standard equipment. Automatic braking, which we highly recommend as an active safety feature, can cost up to the price of a package that includes both inactive lane controls and front parking sensors. There are a number of options available for the Premier model, including leather upholstery, an HD surround-view camera system, a rearview camera that uses a camera mounted on the back of the vehicle, and blind-spot monitors.

With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, you can easily use your smartphone while driving thanks to the screen’s responsive menus. Wireless smartphone charging, Bose premium audio, and active safety upgrades are a few of the extras available.
