Gallery Our Opinion - 2022 Subaru Forester Review The Subaru Forester is known for its practicality. This compact crossover has a roomy cabin and a quiet ride, making it a solid contender in its market. Even while it’s not the fastest or most exhilarating SUV overall drive, and thus more power would be welcome, our testing shows it has respectable 0-60 mph acceleration. The boxy design of the Forester provides excellent visibility from the outside and plenty of headroom within the cabin. Cargo space and legroom for three passengers are both generous in this vehicle. When loading kids in the seats, the rear doors may be opened wide, making it easy to do so. The large, easy-to-read symbols on the responsive touchscreen have also been lauded. AWD is standard in the Forester, as it is on the majority of other Subaru models. The SUV can drive over gravel, sand and unpaved ground with ease, but its mild engine might occasionally limit its off-road capabilities. We got trapped on a slushy-silty hill after a hard stop in their 2019 SUV during testing, whenever the Forester was designated a finalist. For now, we’re eager to see how the Wilderness trim holds up in less traveled terrain. The Forester is a great option for buyers who prefer a roomy interior to rapid acceleration. We recommend taking a spin in the capacious, enjoyable, all-around-awesome Honda CR-V before signing on the dotted line. What's New? The 25/28 mpg rating of the Wilderness variant is lower than that of regular Foresters. Interior and Exterior Cargo Capacity The Subaru Forester and Honda CR-V are both roomy SUVs. The Forester is outclassed by this rival in terms of cargo capacity. Ratings and Options for Safety This year’s Subaru Forester received a five-star actual safety rating out from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Five stars are awarded for the front, side, and rollover tests, while four stars are awarded for the rollover test. The IIHS awarded the 2021 Forester a 2021 Top Defensive Pick+ honor. As a standard feature, Subaru’s new EyeSight safety system is included in the Forester. New camera technology with just a wider field of vision is expected to increase its ability to identify varied traffic scenarios. Lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, sway stabilization, and adaptive cruise control are all included as standard equipment. Automatic emergency steering will be available on some 2022 models to help drivers avoid collisions when traveling at speeds below 50 mph. In addition, lane change assists and rear cross-traffic alerts are also available in the blind-spot recognition system. Subaru Forester Off-road Capabilities Subaru has added a new Wilderness midsized sedan for better off-road capabilities. Departure, Approach, and break-over angles have all been enhanced as the ground clearance rises from 8.7 to 9.2 inches. The Wilderness has more low-end torque because of differential ratios of 4.11:1 as opposed to 3.70:1 in ordinary Foresters. Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires are wrapped over 17-inch black wheels to improve traction. The chairs in the cabin are water-resistant. In addition to the bolder body cladding, a redesigned front grille, an anti-glare hooded cloak decal, and other improvements, this model has a unique exterior. Prices begin at about $34,000. It’s a configuration that works amazingly well, but we’re not sure just how much capacity it is then just about any other Forester model. Trim Levels The Base, Sport, Premium, Wilderness, and Touring trim levels of the 2022 Subaru Forester are all offered. The base model costs roughly $26,500, while the top-of-the-line variant costs around $36,500. A 6.5-inch touchscreen, CD player, SiriusXM, and dual USB ports in the front center console are included in the base model. Leather-wrapped steering wheel with 10-way power driver seat, heated front seats and mirrors, and a panoramic moonroof are all included in the premium package. It comes with orange accents on the black exterior, gray/orange interior color scheme, blind-spot recognition with lane departure assist but also rear cross-traffic alert, including automated emergency steering in the Sport version. Dual USB ports in the rear center console, electric rear gate with auto-close/height memory, and leather upholstery are all included. Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires, larger wheel arch cladding, and increased ground clearance make the Wilderness a unique vehicle. Touring: chrome-trimmed LED fog lights , silver-finished roof rails, heated rear outboard seats, driver monitoring mitigation system featuring gesture controls over temperature settings. Technology A CD player and a 6.5-inch touchscreen running Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are included in Forester’s standard equipment. An 8.0-inch screen is available as an option for buyers. There’s also a high-end Harmon Kardon audio system available. The optional Driver Monitoring System now includes gesture controls for the HVAC.
