The Q7 is the only Audi with three rows of seats and its best-sized SUV. If you have a big family, this is the Audi you should buy because it can fit up to seven people. Some SUVs, like the smaller Q5 and the sportier Q8, have two rows of seats that can fit up to five people. It’s easy for families and big groups to ride in the Q7 because it has roomy seats, a smooth ride, cool tech features like two touchscreens in the middle, and a nice-looking digital instrument cluster. Most people won’t need the extra speed of the V6 engine, but if you want smooth acceleration, the base engine is refined. The V8-powered SQ7 is looked at on its own.

The Q7 is an excellent choice for a high-end three-row SUV because it looks great, has a modern cabin, and is very useful. But what if you want a more stylish family car but want to save money on something other than the more expensive SQ7? You can now get the new S Line Sport package. The extra package comes with unique 21-inch wheels (you can also get 22-inch wheels with performance tires), red brake calipers, black exterior trim, and other unique looks that make the Q7 stand out. The kit also comes with a changeable sport suspension and all-wheel steering to make moving the car easier. Inside, the sports seats are better Valcona leather, with more leather-wrapped panels and brushed metal accents.

The Q7 is a very appealing luxury SUV, although it has not been redesigned since 2017. The Acura MDX and Lincoln Aviator are two younger luxury SUVs with three rows of seats that you should consider. You can also get a third-row seat in the Mercedes-Benz GLE or the Genesis GV80. There is a new upscale SUV called the Lexus TX, though. It has three rows of seats.

What makes the Q7 go? We drove a V6-powered Q7, one of the fastest non-performance cars in its class. It went from 0 to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds. Acceleration happens quickly, easily, and without problems, whether the car is stopped or on the highway. But the throttle feels slightly slow in Comfort mode until you stomp on the pedal.

It looks like the Q7’s turning circle needs to be more significant. Aside from that, all of its other moving features are brilliant. You can feel confident going around corners at an acceptable speed because the brakes are smooth, the changes are almost audible, and there is no body roll.

How comfortable is the Q7? The Q7 is one of the most fun cars in its class. The four-zone temperature control system that comes with the car spreads air evenly between the first and second seats, blocking out noise from the road or wind. There are no exits for the third row, so people in that row will have to work with people in the second row to make sure everyone gets enough airflow. The seat certainly does its job regarding heating and cooling, but it could be more effective.

As lovely as the front seats are in the top-of-the-line Prestige model, they are only adjustable in eight directions, which is strange because they are suitable for long trips. Please give us at least a thigh cushion that can be stretched out! The basic suspension in the Q7 makes the ride smooth and controlled. The ride is a little rougher than we’d like, even with the optional air suspension update.

How is the inside? How well do you know how to use technology? If your answer is “not very,” the Audi’s two-touchscreen entertainment system might be hard to understand. Even though there are several ways to add data, the system and menu structure can be complex to understand and use, requiring a lot of focus.

More nice-looking things are inside the Q7. From where you’re sitting, you can see far ahead, to the sides, and back. The first and second-row seats are comfy, but the third row is only for kids. While the front and back doors make it easy to get to the first and second rows, the seat system in the third row can make it hard to get in.

How does the tech work? The Q7’s interface is excellent to look at, sharp, and responsive to user input, but the dual touchscreen can sometimes be rugged to use. The navigation system has a clever handwriting function that saves time because you don’t have to look up each letter individually. It quickly found our chicken scratch.

Our test Q7 had a charging pad, four USB ports, and a 12-volt outlet. Many people use linked Android Auto and Wi-Fi Apple CarPlay, but linked Android Auto has some problems. They are not as good as Mercedes’ MBUX system, but they’re okay too. Most of the safety features on the Q7 work well and come as standard.

What’s the deal with the storage? If you fold up all seven rows, the load area goes from 14.2 cubic feet behind the third row to 69.6 cubic feet at its largest. These numbers show what the class average is. You can raise or lower the back end with the extra air suspension, making loading and unloading easier. It’s helpful that the third-row power-folding seats can be folded down no matter where the second-row chairs are placed. The big door pockets are the best place to store things for average internal storage.

There are three child safety seat anchor sets in the second row and two sets in the third. This makes it possible to put child seats in several ways, but it is different for cars in this class. Audi says the V6-powered Q7 can pull up to 7,700 pounds, enough for many leisure trailers. The four-cylinder engine can carry up to 4,400 pounds of weight.

What kind of fuel economy does it have? The EPA says that the Q7 with a V6 engine will get 20 mpg overall (18 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway). These figures are better than the rest of the class’s, but they worked for us. The 115-mile test route had city and highway drive, and the average gas mileage was 21 mpg. On our test loop, rivals often get less than one mpg more than expected.

Should you buy the Q7? There are a lot of excellent features that come with the Q7, and it costs about the same as German cars. Our test car, the Prestige, seemed a bit pricey for what it had to offer, but other trims are still a good deal. In line with Audi’s history, the Q7’s interior is made of high-quality materials and has a nice look.

The basic warranty lasts for four years, and the engine warranty lasts for 50,000 miles. Roadside assistance is given for four years and an unlimited number of miles. All of them fit the standard profile of the segment.

The Audi Q7 shows that you can comfortably pull a family while still having fun on the road. This classic SUV, which got its most recent update in 2017, still does better than the competition. This shows how high the bar was when Audi first released it.

Even though the Premium Plus trim is less expensive, the Premium trim already has a lot of great features. It comes with the Convenience package and some nice extras, like a premium music system by Bang & Olufsen and better-LED headlights. The base four-cylinder engine (or 45 TFSI) gets the same gas mileage as the more powerful V6 engine (or 55 TFSI), so it’s worth the extra money.
