2023 Cadillac XT6 Overview

What’s new:

  • Minor changes to the availability of standard features
  • This is not an advertisement for a business.

The Cadillac XT6 is the brand’s largest crossover SUV. It is listed right below the truck-based Escalade in the lineup. It goes up against the Acura MDX, the Audi Q7, the Lincoln Aviator, and the Volvo XC90 as luxury SUVs with three rows of seats for families.

Cadillac has added GPS and ventilated front seats to the Premium Luxury and Sport trims of the 2023 XT6 to make them more like the higher-end Premium Luxury trim. The options for powertrains will stay the same in 2023. The base Luxury trim has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, but the following two levels have 3.6-liter V6 machines that are more powerful. All XT6 models come with all-wheel drive.

We like how comfortable the XT6’s interior is and how easy it is to use its electronics. Even though some of its rivals, like the Escalade, have more character, the XT6 is still a good choice for customers. See our Expert Rating below for a detailed look at how the XT6 performs, how useful it is, and other things.

Pros:

  • A serene interior
  • Most adults can fit in the third row.
  • An infotainment system that is easy to use
  • There is a hands-free driving system with Super Cruise.

Cons:

  • Behind the third row, there is little space for stuff.
  • When the throttle is jerky, it’s hard to speed up smoothly.
  • Few rules about pulling a trailer
  • It’s a little bit costly for what you receive in return.

How does the XT6 move? We tested out the 3.6-liter V6 engine in the XT6. The XT6 took 7.3 seconds to travel from 0 to 60 mph on the test track, which is suitable for a car of size but well below class leaders. The all-wheel-drive system is interesting because you have to turn it on yourself whenever you need it.

When you press the gas pedal hard and don’t have AWD engaged, you can get torque steer when the steering wheel pulls to one side. A gas pedal that is too sensitive can also make it hard to drive at low speeds. The front chin spoiler, which makes the car more aerodynamic, is another sign that you shouldn’t go off-roading.

How well does the XT6 fit? The front seats are comfortable and have good heating and cooling systems, but you can’t change them in some ways. People with long legs can’t make the thigh cushion longer and can only move the lumbar support in two ways. The captain’s chairs in the second row are comfortable and can be leaned back. Regarding riding comfort, the XT6 Sport we tested did a decent job absorbing substantial road impacts, but it struggled to keep the body from moving up and down afterward. This feature might be complex for people in the back who are sensitive to movement.

Even though the main controls are buttons and a touchscreen, which could be better, the automatic climate control works well and responds quickly to changes in temperature. But the cabin is good at blocking out noise. Many high-end SUVs are noisier than the XT6, but it’s not as loud as an Audi Q7.

How does the inside look? Cadillac added a rotary controller to go with its touchscreen interface, even though most other car companies are getting rid of their touchscreen interfaces. This sentence is written slightly differently than the one in the video.

The XT6 is easy to get in and out of because it has a low stepover height and doors with squared-off openings. Even getting into the third row is easy if you get the captain’s chairs in the second row. Once you’re inside, each row has a good amount of space. Low-mounted side mirrors and an optional parking camera system with a 360-degree view make it easier to see all around.

How good is the tech? The Bose sound system with the car has enough power to let you play your music loudly and clearly. Even though this system is only half as loud as some of its competitors, it sounds loud. The native navigation is simple and works with everyday language. There are many ways to charge, and people who like to use their phones can use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. We found six USB ports and a wireless phone charger in our test XT6.

Most of the time, the driving aids in the XT6 are good. Even though adaptive cruise works well, the lane maintenance system is more of a safety feature than a way to help keep the car in the middle. The expensive night vision option is not worth it because it needs to work better.

What about putting things away? Third-row seats that fold flat with a push of a button are always helpful, primarily when they work quickly, like in the XT6. Both the back passenger door and the back hatch have controls that are easy to reach. The liftover height in the cargo area is high, and there are only 12.6 cubic feet of space behind the third-row seats, which is less than average. The most space for cargo is 78.7 cubic feet, which is about average for this class.

The storage space in the cabin for personal effects is likewise about par for the course. Others in the class come up with better answers. For example, it took a lot of work to fit sunglasses in the space there. Pulling the upper tray out from under the armrest can be challenging when the USB cords are plugged in. Behind the driver, there is enough room in the second row of the XT6 for a large rear-facing car seat.

How well does it use gasoline? The XT6 we tested with the V6 and all-wheel drive got an estimated 21 mpg on the highway; it is about the same as most of its competitors. On our mixed-driving test route, we got an average of 22.6 mpg, which is about what we thought it would be and indicates that the XT6 will meet what it says on the window sticker.

Does the XT6 live up to its price? The XT6 isn’t worth as much as the sum of its parts, which is a shame. The materials used to build the cabin inside are good, but how they were put together could be better. In terms of how complicated it is, this cabin is not as good as others at this price point or even hundreds of dollars cheaper. The MSRP for a Cadillac seems very high when you look at what you get. Many of your competitors have more to offer, whether at a lower price or a higher level of luxury.

Cadillac has more roadside assistance options than most other car companies and a more extended warranty on the powertrain than European automakers. It also comes with a year of free maintenance, which is nice.

Overall, we like how the XT6 looks and how easy it is to tell that it is a Cadillac. It looks good and matches the outside; it feels less high-end than some, especially for the price. We don’t like how this XT6 drives most of the time. We thought about leaving the all-wheel-drive system on all the time to eliminate the torque-steer problem, but that would use more gas. This is likely to take away from the luxury.

We highly recommend the Premium Luxury trim because it has a more powerful V6 engine and a great range of standard features, which are made even better by the new standard equipment for 2023. Some of the features that come with the package are a power liftgate, GPS, and front seats with vents.

In 2023, there will be three different trim levels for the Cadillac XT6: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport. The engine in the Luxury trim level is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged unit (237 horsepower, 258 lb-ft of torque). Each machine has an automatic transmission with nine speeds. Drivetrains with front-wheel drive come standard on Luxury and Premium Luxury trim levels, while all-wheel purpose is available. All-wheel movement is built for performance and comes standard on the Sport.
