An element of the 2020 XT6’s first generation. The 2024 Cadillac XT6 is a giant SUV that isn’t an Escalade that Cadillac makes. It looks like a current Caddy because of its tall front end, mesh grille, and clean, straight lines. It also has some features that are typical of Cadillacs, like the newest technology from the company, great views all around, and seats that are easy to get to. Think of the XT6 as an option to the Escalade that costs less and uses less gas. The 235-horsepower four-cylinder engine that comes standard with the XT6 isn’t all that great. In fact, the 310-horsepower V6 is what you’ll need for fast acceleration. However, the XT6 may seem slow when trying to reach highway speeds with a few people inside, even with the V6 engine. A lot of the time, competing high-end SUVs have more powerful engine options. The Lincoln Aviator is faster than the Cadillac, but both cars look and have the same features. We’re also interested in the Acura MDX because it’s cheap and easy to drive. Another great option is the brand-new Lexus TX. It has a big and comfortable cabin. Also, the Mazda CX-90 is as good as or better than the XT6 in many ways if you are okay with buying from a non-luxury brand. Pros vs Cons Pros Peace of mind. The third row has enough space for most people. A fun-to-use entertainment system. Hands-free driving system: you can use Super Cruise. Cons Behind the third row, there is little room for bags. It’s hard to accelerate smoothly because the throttle moves all over the place. Low limits on pulling. To receive what you get, the price is quite high. Performance Where does the XT6’s power come from? We tested the XT6’s 3.6-liter V6 engine to see how well it worked. It took the XT6 7.3 seconds to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour, which is good for a big car but a little slower than the fastest cars in its class. Strangely, the all-wheel-drive system isn’t automatic; you have to turn it on by hand when you think you need it. Two more bad things about driving are torque steer, which is when the steering wheel moves to one side when you press on the accelerator, and poor low-speed maneuverability caused by a gas pedal that is too sensitive. Also, some driveways scratch the front chin spoiler, which helps with aerodynamics and is a sign that you shouldn’t go off-roading. Comfort Does the XT6 feel good? The front seats are comfortable and have good heating and cooling, but they aren’t very adjustable. For people with long legs, for example, there is no thigh cushion extension, and the lumbar support can only be moved in two directions. The captain’s chairs in the second row can be leaned back and are a good level of comfort, but it could be better. When it came to riding comfort, the XT6 Sport we tested did a good job of absorbing hard road impacts, but it had trouble controlling the body posture changes that happened as a result. People in the back who are sensitive to motion may have trouble with this feature. The automatic climate control system works well and quickly adjusts to changes in temperature, even though the main controls are split between buttons and a touchscreen, which could be better. Even so, the cabin has very good soundproofing. Few high-end SUVs are as quiet as the XT6 but not as quiet as the Audi Q7. Interior How is the condition of the inside? Most automakers are getting rid of rotary controllers right now, but Cadillac chose to add one to go with its touchscreen interface. We agree with this choice, but some of the touch-sensitive features are still hard to use. It’s easy to get in and out of the XT6 because the doors open fully and have short stepover heights. If you have the captain’s chairs in the second row, you can get up to the third row. Inside each row, there is a good amount of room. A low-mounted side mirror and an optional surround-view parking camera system both help the driver see better. Technology What is there to do with technology? The Bose sound system that was given to you has enough output to let you improve your music with good sound quality. Even when turned down halfway, this system sounds louder than some that could be better. The native navigation is pretty simple to use and understands what you say. With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, people who like their gadgets have a lot of ways to charge them. In our test XT6, we found a wireless phone charger as well as six USB ports. Most of the XT6’s driving aids work well. Adaptive cruise control works great, even though it helps you stay in the middle more than it stops you from going off course. The pricey night vision feature isn’t worth the money because it needs to work better. Storage How is the storage situation right now? It’s always nice to have third-row seats that fold flat and quickly, like the ones in the XT6. Both the back passenger door and the cargo hatch have controls that are easy to reach. The liftover height for the cargo area is high, and the 12.6 cubic feet of space behind the third-row seats isn’t very much. The 78.7 cubic feet of maximum payload space is more than the average for this class. There is also no place to store small items in the cabin. Some of the students in the class came up with more creative answers. For instance, we needed help finding room for sunglasses. It can also be hard to remove the upper tray from under the armrest if the USB cables are still plugged in. The XT6’s second row has plenty of room for a big back-facing car seat behind the driver, which makes it great for families. Fuel Economy How well does the fuel work? The XT6 we tested, which has all-wheel drive and a V6, gets 21 mpg combined, which is about the same as the other cars in the class. Our mixed-driving test route gave us an average of 22.6 mpg, which is in line with what we expected and suggests that the XT6 will live up to its window sticker numbers. Value How much is the XT6 worth? The XT6 isn’t worth what its parts are worth, which is a shame. The materials inside the cabin are good, but the way they are put together could be better. In terms of complexity, this cabin is not as good as others in this price range or even ones that cost hundreds of dollars less. The Cadillac’s MSRP is too high for what you get here. A number of competitors have something better to offer, whether it’s more high-end or less expensive. When compared to other models, Cadillac has better roadside assistance coverage and a longer warranty on the powertrain than European automakers. It also comes with free regular maintenance for a year. Wildcard We really like how the XT6 looks overall and how easy it is to tell that it is a Cadillac. Even at this price, the interior design is less high-end than some others, even though it goes well with the style outside. The worst thing about this XT6 is when we drive it. We thought about turning on the all-wheel-drive system all the time to fix the torque-steer problem, but that would make the gas mileage worse. This is likely to take away from the high-class feel. What is Invoice Pricing's Recommendation? It would help if you got the Premium Luxury. The base trim gets GPS, Bose sound upgrades, and ventilated front seats. This trim also gets a more powerful V6 engine that you’ll be glad you paid extra for. There are also some nice features in the Premium Luxury package like the Super Cruise hands-free driving technology. Types of Cadillac XT6 There are three trim levels for the 2024 Cadillac XT6: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport. The Luxury trim has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The Premium Luxury and Sport trims, on the other hand, have a 3.6-liter V6 engine that makes 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque. The automatic transmission has nine speeds and comes with both engines. On the Luxury and Premium Luxury models, front-wheel drive is standard. All-wheel drive can be added as an option. The Sport comes with an all-wheel-drive system that is designed for performance. 2024 Cadillac XT6 Video Review
