2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E Overview

What’s new:

  • Small changes are expected by 2025.
  • As part of the first generation of the 2021 Mustang Mach-E.

The Mustang Mach-E, which came out in 2021 as Ford’s first electric car designed just for the brand, quickly rose to the top of our rankings. Even though there has been more competition for four years, it is still a good choice because of its range, performance, and technological features. We call it an SUV, even though it looks more like a long hatchback in person because the ride height is lower. This has some good points, like seats that are easy to get to and a lower center of gravity that makes turning easier. The Mach-E has many features that make it appealing to many buyers. It’s a fun runabout that lives up to the Mustang brand, and it’s also a useful electric vehicle.

With prices starting at the low $40,000s, the Mustang Mach-E is one of the most affordable EVs on the market right now. With rear-wheel drive, you get an easy-to-drive hatchback or crossover with a range of up to 250 miles, which should be enough for people who drive to work every day. When customers upgrade to the next trim level and receive a larger battery, the range increases to 320 miles, it becomes a better choice for road trips. The suspension and brakes have been improved to make the GT more performance-oriented. It also has 480 horsepower for drivers who want the excitement that comes with the Mustang name. There seems to be a Mustang Mach-E for almost every taste and budget, even the off-road-capable Rally model.

The 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E is like two other mashups, even though it looks like a weird mix of a hatchback and a crossover. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is our current pick because of its cool retro look, ability to charge quickly, and wide range of models, from mild to wild. The Tesla Model Y is another popular car. It has access to one of the largest charging networks, even though its infotainment system is annoying, and it doesn’t work with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto on smartphones. See our Expert Rating to find out what the Mustang Mach-E does well and what it could do better.

What do they like to live with?

Because Ford is trying something new with the Mustang Mach-E, we’ve added one of the first ones to Invoice Pricing’ long-term test fleet. They drove almost 20,000 miles and learned a lot about technology, comfort, performance, and range while they were owners.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Fast acceleration and sporty handling, especially for the GT.
  • A battery pack that lasts longer and a longer range.
  • Central touchscreen that is easy to use.
  • Elegant decor for the inside.

Cons

  • There are a few ways to adjust the front seats.
  • Roads that need to be level can make rides uncomfortable.

How well does the Mach-E Mustang work? The Mustang badge on the Mach-E shows that it is fast and agile. A Mach-E Premium model with all-wheel drive and a battery that lasts longer was put to the test. A car could go from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds on the Invoice Pricing test track. One version with only one motor took 6.5 seconds to test as well. While the Mach-E is generally quick and has enough power for stress-free driving, some other electric vehicles (EVs), like the Tesla Model Y, are slightly faster. Another fun way to drive the Mach-E is on roads with lots of turns. But if you drive it quickly, you’ll notice that the economy tires don’t give you enough grip.

When driven normally, the Mach-E has a buttery smooth ride. In one-pedal driving, you can stop the car by taking your foot off the accelerator. This is possible because regenerative braking works. We would rather do this than use the brake pedal because it is shaky and grabby, which makes it hard to stop smoothly in everyday driving.

How comfortable is the Mustang Mach-E? We like that the Mustang Mach-E’s climate control system is strong and easy to use. The available seat and steering wheel heaters get warm quickly, but we’d like to be able to choose to have seats that can breathe in warmer weather. For drivers with longer legs, an extra cushion that goes over the lower thigh could make the front seats more comfortable for a wider range of body types.

The Mustang Mach-E’s cabin blocks out outside noise and winds well, even when the car is going fast. The main bad thing is that the ride is a little rough and stiff when the pavement is cracked or uneven. But it is still comfortable. Other EVs, like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, handle bumps better.

How is the condition of the inside? The 15.5-inch touchscreen in the middle of the Mach-E is easy to use and has a useful bar of shortcuts that changes based on what functions were last used. You won’t have to mess around with the controls to figure out how to use them either since there are a lot of traditional ones, like a speed knob. The digital drive cluster, which is in front of the steering wheel, shows the driver important information right in front of their eyes.

In the back, there is plenty of room for adults. The Mach-E has a fastback roof, but it doesn’t get in the way of visibility and is easy to get in and out of. We don’t know how long the Mach-E’s push-button door releases will last, but they work and look cool.

What’s wrong with the tech? The Mustang Mach-E from Ford has some of the newest and best technology inside a car. The 15.5-inch touchscreen display has a great navigation system and comes with built-in wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. There is also a wireless charging pad, but it couldn’t charge our phones fast enough for wireless CarPlay. Ford cars come with both USB-A and USB-C ports that can charge phones quickly. Ford, like Tesla, offers updates over the air, which should cut down on the number of times you have to visit the dealer.

Ford has a lot of driving aids, like the BlueCruise system, that lets you drive without using your hands on some highways and in some weather. The latest version works well most of the time, but it could still be better. Based on our tests, BlueCruise sometimes makes bad decisions about steering or changing lanes and stops working without warning. This makes it hard to trust, which defeats the point of hands-free driving. Besides that, adaptive cruise keeps gaps close without needing to use the brakes often. The surround-view camera system is clearly shown on the center screen, and there are many angles to choose from.

What’s going on with storage? The Mach-E’s hatchback trunk makes it easier to carry things. Ford says there are 29 cubic feet of space behind the back seats. That doesn’t have as much space as the Model Y, especially the floor. But there is a very smart, flexible cargo cover that can be taken off completely or attached to the back hatch and swung up out of the way. You can fold down the Mach-E’s split-back seats to make more room for cargo. Even though it’s small, the front trunk can be used as a cooler with ice because it has a drain hole that can be used to empty it later.

The front has a two-tiered console that gives you plenty of storage space for your items and makes the front cabin feel roomy. The pockets on the side doors are deep but not very tall. The wireless charging pad in front of the cupholders looks like it could fit two phones, but it can only fit one.

Do you have little kids? The anchor points for child safety seats are hidden by the back seats’ slits. They make it easy to get to things, but they aren’t as noticeable as Isofix anchors in the Euro style.

How about the range and how well it works? The Mustang Mach-E can go between 230 and 320 miles on a full charge, depending on how it is set up. For Invoice Pricing, we’ve already tested an all-wheel-drive Premium trim with an EPA-estimated 290-mile range. By 2024, this will be 300 miles. Our test car got 307 miles on a single charge, which was a little more than the average for the Invoice Pricing EV Range Test. For that reason, a two-motor electric SUV in this price range is good in the long run. For every 100 miles driven, our test vehicle used 32.7 kWh of electricity, which is a little more than competitors like the Model Y and VW ID.4.

The Invoice Pricing EV Charging Test was also done on the Mach-E to see how fast it charges and gains range at a public DC fast-charging station. The Mach-E fails in this area because, based on our tests, it is one of the slowest electric SUVs to charge. If you compare this to a competitor like the Kia EV6, you’ll need to spend more time charging while you’re on the go.

Is the price of the Mustang Mach-E fair? Since Ford’s EV credits are still available, but not Tesla’s, the Mach-E could be a great buy because it could save you a lot of money. Overall, the build quality looks good, and the beautiful trim inside gives off a Scandinavian vibe. You might think it was a Lincoln if it didn’t have the standard Ford switches on the doors and steering wheel.

While not as good as warranties from high-end brands, Ford’s is still good enough. The warranty on electric parts covers the bumper-to-bumper for three years or 36,000 miles, and the powertrain for five years, or 60,000 miles. According to the warranty, the battery will keep at least 70% of its original capacity for at least eight years or 100,000 miles.

People have been able to buy the Mustang Mach-E for a while now, but we still like how it looks. Ford also made a smart choice by giving the car a sporty look, especially with the GT trim level. This electric car isn’t as dull as some others.

The Premium trim, which is in the middle price range, has a power rear hatch, heated front seats, and a high-end sound system that fills the otherwise quiet cabin. To make people feel better about their range, we offer the option of a bigger battery.
