2025 Lexus GX Overview

What’s new:

  • Major shifts are not something I am anticipating.
  • A part of the third version of GX, which will come out in 2024.

There are many kinds of Lexus SUVs. If you want a car that looks tough and can handle going off-road, the 2025 Lexus GX might be a good choice. The midsize luxury SUV from Lexus got a whole new look last year. It strikes an appealing mix between a truck-like shape and many high-end features, making it useful. Since the GX was just redesigned, there’s not much reason to think it will get better until 2025.

By putting the GX’s features into clear and logical packages, Lexus has made it possible for buyers to choose the SUV’s style based on their needs. All 2025 GX models will likely come with low-range gearing and four-wheel drive as normal features. This will help you get around on rough terrain or dirt roads. All-terrain tires and a locking rear axle should be added to the Overtrail and Overtrail+ models to improve their grip. You can even pick the GX, which has a 21-speaker sound system and front seats that massage you for a more comfortable ride.

The Lexus GX is a good vehicle to use instead of the Land Rover Defender 110. Like the GX, it has a lot of high-end luxury features and good off-road skills. After that, you could pick a more expensive SUV like the Toyota Land Cruiser (which is linked to the GX) or a bigger luxury SUV like the Lexus LX or Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

Pros

  • It’s a great mix between comfort and usefulness.
  • It has a unique look and a good cabin.
  • Stays true to its off-road roots.
  • Remove goods that are beneficial to all.

Cons

  • Not good MPG.
  • Only one small third-row seat is available, taking up cargo space.
  • Some tools that help you drive may need to be more convenient to use.

How does the GX get power? The GX, which had one of the slowest engine/transmission pairs on the market, has been brought back to life with a brand-new chassis and engine. The 10-speed gearbox and turbocharged V6 engine in the GX work well together. In our tests, it took the GX 6.7 seconds to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour. You can easily pass slower cars or turn onto a freeway thanks to the powerful engine. All the way around town, it’s also smooth and quick.

This very large SUV is challenging to drive. Body roll is obvious when the GX is pushed, but the suspension does a great job of keeping the car from feeling too sloppy or hard to control.

How does the GX feel in your hands? The GX needs to care about how well it handles broken ground. Its suspension does a great job of reducing bumps and keeping the inside quiet. When going very fast, the cabin is very quiet, except for some wind noise that bounces off the tall side mirrors. There is a mix of firm and soft seating in the front two rows. The bench seat in the third row is so low that passengers must elevate their knees to sit upright.

How is the inside? Given the GX’s size, the second row doesn’t have that much space, and the third row is really small. The GX has enough space for five people, but if you need to fit in more, be ready for rude words from other people. Although the GX has a high ride, it may be easier for shorter drivers to get in thanks to the grab bars and running boards.

Everything you’ll need to use often is conveniently placed on the GX’s panel. We’re not really interested in the climate settings. Although the screen is small and the functions are located at the bottom, using features like heating or cooling the front seats does not need going through settings. Most individuals have good vision, and the integrated surround-view camera system is helpful for parking and off-roading.

What’s wrong with the tech? Many Toyota and Lexus cars now have a leisure system that is quick and simple to use. The maps are slow compared to what you’ll get if you connect your phone and use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay wirelessly. Voice prompts are functional, although they lack the functionality seen in the most recent models of Mercedes and BMW’s speech systems.

There are a lot of different types of standard driver help systems. However, it can be challenging to use these tools together. For instance, the driver focus monitor is set up above the steering column. If you keep your hand on the wheel while driving, you’ll receive constant updates because the camera can’t see your face. Also, you can only drive hands-free at low speeds of up to 25 mph. Because of the large amount of traffic, it keeps turning on and off. Compared to just keeping one’s hand on the wheel, its use is less convenient.

Where does storage stand right now? Even with the third row folded down, the three-row GX models’ cargo space is only 10.3 cu. ft. A more practical volume of 40.2 cubic feet results from halving the third row. If you fold down the back row, you’ll have 76.9 cubic feet. The two-row Overtrail models offer significantly more cargo space because they do not include a third-row seat. The one and only drawback is that larger items may be difficult to transport up to the baggage area due to the high load-in height.

If you choose the chilled center console, you’ll lose some small storage room. That bin is still big enough to hold three or four cans of whatever you need to keep cold, but it gets pretty small. The door bags are big enough, but there are only a few places to put anything else in the front of the car besides a phone.

How much fuel does it use? Even though it achieves 17 mpg (15 city/21 highway) according to the EPA, the GX’s engine and full-time 4WD system reduce its fuel efficiency. The higher economy of 19.8 mpg we got on our real-world test route was better. However, if you want to drive the GX off-road, those numbers will drop significantly.

Is the GX worth it? The GX is a very nice off-road vehicle because it is well-built and has a level of fit and finish inside that is comparable to a Lexus. The prices of the Overtrail versions are a surprise since there are cheaper ways to drive in the dirt. On the other hand, the GX will look like a good buy if you want an SUV with a lot of style and class.

When we hear “most stylish,” we normally picture a different brand. Conversely, the GX’s handling matches its attractive looks. With its easy-to-use engine, it makes a lot of power. The Overtrail models are designed to be great off-roaders without sacrificing comfort or on-road skills. You’ll be excited to drive every time you get in the GX.

As of this writing, Lexus hasn’t said anything public about the 2025 GX. If anything changes, we’ll let you know, but based on the GX from last year, the base Premium has enough features and capabilities to meet the needs of most people in this group. With its locking rear differential and all-terrain tires, the Overtrail model is a great choice if you like to go off-road a lot.

Types of Lexus GX

The Lexus GX medium luxury SUV has six trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, Luxury, Luxury+, Overtrail, and Overtrail Plus. It only comes with a 3.4-liter turbocharged V6 engine that makes 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque and is paired with a 10-speed automatic gearbox. A four-wheel drive is standard on all trim levels.
