The Mazda 3 is a small car that comes as either a hatchback or a sedan. It has two engines: a regular four-cylinder engine and an improved turbocharged four-cylinder engine with all-wheel drive as standard. Even if the Mazda 3 is less helpful and efficient than some competitors, it has one significant advantage: it’s a joy to drive.

The Mazda 3 stands out because it has sharp driving and excellent handling. It’s also a fun car to drive daily, especially with the optional turbo engine. The Mazda 3 has an extra six-speed manual transmission but can only be used with front-wheel drive and the base engine.

In 2024, the Mazda 3 will get new trim packages, including one called “Carbon Turbo,” which has many of the same comforts as the “Carbon Edition” package for the 2.5 Turbo model. The new Select Sport package takes the place of the old Select deal. The most important news is that the middle screen will be a 10.25-inch touchscreen. This is a big step up from the awkward rotary key interface of the standard 8.8-inch screen. The technology comes standard on cars with a 2.5 Turbo engine, allowing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to work wirelessly.

Small hatchbacks and sedans like the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Nissan Sentra, Kia Forte, and Hyundai Elantra have not become less of a threat to the Mazda 3.

How to drive 3 Hatchback? Like most Mazdas, the three hatchback is delightful to drive. Merging and on-ramping are swift due to the vehicle’s above-average horsepower and acceleration. The brake pedal’s steady responsiveness gives drivers confidence during emergency stops and daily driving. The steering and handling are same. Despite being boring, both are fun to do regularly.

The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine reached 60 mph in 8.2 seconds on our test track, outstanding. However, the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine slashes 0 to 60 seconds to 6.1 seconds. Its well-made turbo provides little lag and instant power. Tap the gas pedal lightly to pass or merge, not hard.

How does the 3 Hatchback feel? The inside of the 3 is usually lovely. The front seats are supportive and comfy enough to drive all day. When moving slowly or quickly, engine noise is the most noticeable, but no annoying drone exists. The baritone thrum of the turbocharged engine is quite attractive. All of the cars in the lineup have less road noise.

Because the focus of the 3 is more on the driver, most bumps and vibrations are felt in the car, but the suspension controls these movements so that people don’t groan. Just put the air conditioner on “auto” and forget about it.

How’s the inside? Three indicates clear thinking and keen instincts. The buttons are straightforward to use, so you can focus on the road. We want the driver position. Most drivers should be able to choose their preferred setting as everything is straightforward.

Why does it score lower? The vista and backseat. The rear side walls reduce the back glass and cause blind spots. Even though mirror placement can help, backing out of a parking spot requires more effort than necessary. Even though we prefer the front seat, the back is snug. Even though the business has less legroom and shoulder room than expected, headroom is fine. You must duck entering and leaving.

How good is the tech? The 8.8-inch infotainment screen that comes standard on the Mazda 3 and the 10.25-inch screen that can be added work well, though some of our reviewers thought the graphics were getting a little old. We like that the remote only has one knob, but the fact that it can’t be used as a touchscreen makes it harder to use. We liked the Bose stereo system because it was easy to find and sounded terrific.

All Mazda models come with high-tech features that help the driver. Most of the helpers work well. When there is a lot of traffic, adaptive cruise control can stop quickly, even if it is not legally necessary.

What about putting things away? The space for goods is smaller than usual. It has lots of space, however the back seats can’t fit. We like the storage options in the center for the front seats, especially the tiny pocket to the left of the steering wheel and the long, wide tray that can hold most of our items. There are few storage choices for people in the back seats, and the door pockets are usually about average size.

The pegs make it easy to install a car seat, but the space in the back is small, so you’ll probably need to slide the front seat forward. The cargo privacy cover hides the back ropes, which is irritating.

How financially stable is the 3 Hatchback? The EPA says the Mazda 3 car gets 29 mpg in city/highway driving with all-wheel drive and 30 mpg in front-wheel movement. The engine with the Turbo drops to 26 mpg. They all don’t live up to what you’d expect from a small car. We found that the EPA’s estimates are correct regarding real-world driving.

Is it a good idea to buy a 3 Hatchback? The Mazda 3 pays much attention to style, which shows its use of high-quality, carefully put-together parts. The only flaw you can see is the high-gloss black trim on the center panel, which gets dirty quickly. This is a problem with many expensive cars as well.

It is average regarding fuel economy, warranty, and benefits of owning. More than anything else, you pay for style, even though the extra turbo engine has a lot of horsepower and, therefore, costs more. The three hatchback is more expensive than almost everything else in its class at the top trim level and with all-wheel drive, especially if you choose the Turbo. This includes the Volkswagen GTI and Golf R, so compare automobiles to make sure the Mazda is superior.

The Mazda 3 will make you smile on a mountain road, but its primary purpose is to make your daily journey more fun. Because its engine is now turbocharged, the small three can now compete with some entry-level luxury cars. The hatchback stands out in a parking lot full of cars because of how it looks from the outside.The three appear different. The interior layout and materials add to this impression, giving the car a level of comfort and style that other hatchbacks can’t match.

Choose a 2.5 S model with the Select Sport package for the best value and mix of features, price, and speed. Most people will be happy with the naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, and extra features like 18-inch wheels, synthetic leather seating, dual-zone climate control, and hands-free keyless entry make it look more expensive.

In 2024, you can buy the Mazda 3 as a hatchback or a car. The two main trim options with the engine choice are the Mazda 3 2.5 S and the Mazda 2.5 Turbo. All-wheel drive is a choice on the base 2.5 S model, but it comes standard on the Turbo.
