Mercedes’ intermediate SUV for 2025 is the GLE, which sits between the GLC with two rows of seats and the GLS with three rows of seats. Even though it’s small enough that only small people should use it, it comes with two rows of seats by default, and most trim levels offer a third row as well. The GLE, including the AMG models, has six different outputs so that almost any taste can be met. There is even a plug-in hybrid. It only comes in one type with rear-wheel drive, which is the base model. After a major makeover in 2024, Mercedes only made a few changes to its GLE lineup for 2025. Mercedes ensures that every taste and budget can be satisfied with the GLE range, offering models ranging from the base 350 trim to the fully loaded AMG 63 S. The AMG 63 S’s turbocharged V8 engine produces 603 hp, while the 255 hp of the four-cylinder engine is more than enough for most drivers. The GLE 450e is a plug-in hybrid that can help you save gas. It has 381 horsepower and can go over 60 miles on electricity alone. There’s also the GLE 580 with 510 horsepower if you want a turbo V8 but don’t want to deal with the AMG crazy. That’s a wide range, folks. Keep quiet and admit that the GLE has everything you’re looking for. The BMW X5 is a good car to take the place of the GLE. It comes in a number of different models and has the same level of luxury and technology as the Mercedes. If speed is the most important thing to you, the Porsche Cayenne or the Genesis GV80 are good choices. The Audi Q8 is another great choice. To aid in your decision-making, please refer to the following Expert Rating provided by our test team. Pros vs Cons Pros Interior that is comfortable and peaceful. Many types of powertrains offer power and economy. A voice command method that works well. Standard and optional functions in a number of areas. Cons It can be hard to use the settings on the steering wheel. The available third row needs to be more crowded. Options quickly make the price go up. Performance What about how the GLE-Class is driven? An electric vehicle with a plug-in hybrid system was the GLE 450e that we examined. Overall, it’s great how easy it is to drive. Once the battery is fully charged, the SUV will stay in electric mode until you need all of its power at once. The engine runs well once it’s turned on. Our test car went from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds on the Edmunds test track. What you feel when you steer is very mild. It’s fun to spin in parking lots, but it could be better for getting a feel for the road. Compared to other GLE models we’ve tested, our GLE 450e seemed less stable and solid when turning. This is likely because the plug-in hybrid parts of the car added weight to it. Overall, the GLE is great for both traveling between states and getting around town. Comfort What kind of comfort does the GLE-Class offer? The ease inside a Mercedes GLE is one of the best reasons to buy one. Our test car had many options, such as massage, seat air, and fast seat heating. These improvements, along with the great temperature control system, make the experience really relaxing. We like the natural wood trim and optional brown leather look, but we really like how the MB-Tex fake leather feels. We also advise against using the adjustable air damper. When we tested it on GLE models before, it was too floaty for everyday use. The GLE’s basic suspension is more than good enough for driving and handling the SUV with ease. Interior How is the inside? This is the ideal layout for a luxury SUV’s cabin. The GLE’s cabin is exquisitely crafted from high-quality materials. Ample room is available within the GLE. Both rows offer ample space. When you add these 21-inch wheels to the GLE, it sits pretty high off the ground, so if you are shorter, you should ask for the running boards. It takes a lot of adjusting to get the seat at the right angle, and the driver’s seat has the best view. We like how easy it is to use the GLE’s touchpad joystick. The pad can be used to go home or back, skip tracks or presets, and give you useful haptic input. But it’s easy to touch the touchpads on the steering wheel by mistake and get input that you don’t want. Technology How does the tech work? The GLE’s touchscreen is bright, lively, and responds quickly. It also has a high resolution. If you get too deep into the choices, they might not make sense. The main features are easy to get to. Because the available Burmester audio system can play sound in all directions, the driver is surrounded by high-fidelity bliss. The highest level isn’t higher, which is a shame. To be more interesting, turn up each song. Other car brands, like Cadillac and BMW, now offer hands-free driving help. Other driving aids, like adaptive cruise control and lane keeping, are useful and don’t get in the way when you’re driving normally, but the GLE doesn’t have this option yet. Storage How are things with the storage? Some plug-in hybrids are hard to store because the battery pack takes up room that could be used for things like cargo. But this doesn’t happen with the GLE 450e. This Mercedes is great, even though it has a little less space than its gas-only predecessor. Furthermore, it outperforms the majority of its competitors in terms of functionality. Also, the package is even better when you think about how big the battery pack is. For longer things, a 60/40 split on the second row is also helpful. There is a lot of room to store small personal items. Do you have little kids? The back seat has easy car seat anchors and enough space for even the biggest child safety seats. The GLE will work well if you want to pull a trailer. When properly equipped, it can pull up to 7,700 pounds, which is enough to move most small or medium-sized trailers. Fuel Economy How much fuel does it use? The version you choose has a big effect on how much fuel it uses. The GLE 450e, the most fuel-efficient model, was our go-to. We could drive it for about 59 miles on a full charge before it turned to regular hybrid mode. It’s a plug-in hybrid. It’s more than what you’d expect from a plug-in SUV. The last time we drove our GLE, it got 28 mpg in mixed conditions, which is still pretty good. In addition, the GLE 450e has a DC quick charge, which gives it an edge over other plug-in hybrids on the market this year. Value How much does the GLE-Class mean? Adding a lot of choices to the GLE can cost a lot, but the money is well spent. The build quality of our test GLE was very good. One of the less interesting things about the GLE is that it comes with a guarantee. There are standard powertrain and bumper-to-bumper warranties, but most rivals offer much better corrosion protection and roadside assistance. Wildcard The Mercedes-Benz GLE models that aren’t AMG are the most luxurious SUVs you can buy. They might not have the coolest personality or style, but they meet all the other requirements. What is Invoice Pricing's Recommendation? It might be hard to choose a GLE because there are so many to choose from. The GLE 450, on the other hand, will not let you down. The more powerful six-cylinder engine in this car makes it a better fit for a medium luxury SUV than the GLE 350. The extra Driver Assistance package is also a must-have. 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE Video Review
