• Hyundai has updated the Sonata for 2024, giving it a new, more expressive front end and a new range of engines.
  • All-wheel drive is now available on the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, a first for the Sonata. The 1.6-liter turbocharged engine is gone.
  • The cabin now comes with two 12.3-inch screens as standard and has a sleek, straight-lined design.

The Hyundai Sonata was first shown to us in March when the South Korean car showed the redesigned sedan for its home market. The 2024 Hyundai Sonata will be offered for the first time in America. It will have a stunning new look, more giant screens inside, and, for the first time, all-wheel drive as an option.

The Sonata was changed

A full-width LED strip on top of a curved bumper dominates the Sonata’s new front end in the US. It looks like the Korean model. Also, the LEDs in the rear light bar have been changed to look like a “H,” which connects the new 2024 Santa Fe and the sedan. In addition to new wheel styles, the N Line gets an oval exhaust tip and a lip spoiler on the back.

The most noticeable changes are the big ones on the outside, but there have also been significant changes on the inside. The base 2.5-liter inline-four with 191 horsepower is still there, but the SEL and Limited models’ turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four with 180 horsepower has been taken out of the lineup. The biggest news is that the 2.5-liter engine can now be paired with all-wheel drive. This is a first for the Sonata. Hyundai will be able to compete with all-wheel-drive cars like the Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, and Subaru Legacy because of the front-biased system.

The sportier N Line choice stays the same for 2024. It still has a 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that makes 290 hp and sends that power only to the front wheels. The hybrid version, which gets its 192 horsepower from a combination of an electric motor and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, will stay the same until 2024. Hyundai says that the hybrid now has paddle shifters and a mode for regenerating energy when the brakes are used. Even though the horsepower numbers for all three powertrains have yet to be confirmed, there should be no changes from the last model.

Changes inside

The original 8.0-inch touchscreen has been changed with a 12.3-inch touchscreen in a curved display next to the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, which used to be part of the Convenience package. The new screens are part of a more significant redesign that includes a new three-spoke steering wheel, a tall rectangular air vent covering most of the dashboard, and a shifter that now sticks out from the steering column instead of the center panel.

Hyundai says that the optional 12-speaker Bose audio system has been upgraded and that wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, only offered on SE models without GPS before, are now standard on all 2024 models. Hyundai says that the new Sonata is the first car in its class to have a trunk that opens by itself.

This winter, people will be able to buy the 2024 Sonata. With a small price hike, the basic SE should start at about $27,000, and the N Line model should begin at about $36,000. This fall, the final price should be made public.
