• V.W. has said that the new Tiguan, which will be sold in Europe, will be available as a plug-in hybrid.
  • The newest version of the small SUV has a new look and many new features.
  • In the U.S., we’ll hear more about the long-wheelbase form of the Tiguan in the coming months.

The Volkswagen Tiguan has a new generation. The car you see above is made for Europe, but it gives you an idea of what the U.S. version will look like. Volkswagen’s third version of its compact crossover is expected to have better interior technology, a new plug-in hybrid engine, and more space for cargo.

V.W. says that the new Tiguan is slightly longer than the old one and is built on the more current MQB platform, also made by the V.W. Group. Since the current US-spec car is sold as the Tiguan Allspace in other markets and has a third row of seats, the version we’ll get in the U.S. will probably be a long-wheelbase model. Minor changes to the look and finish are also possible on the inside and outside.

For the Euro-spec car, there is also a new plug-in hybrid system with a claimed electric range of 62 miles on the WLTP test and the ability to D.C. fast-charge, which is rare for plug-in hybrids. There are both gasoline and diesel turbocharged engines available for this type. Since some of V.W.’s rivals, like the Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson, already offer plug-in hybrid versions, we expect to see a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four and a plug-in hybrid version in the U.S.

Adjustable dampers, a head-up display, a giant 15.0-inch touchscreen, and seats that massage you are new choices for the Tiguan 2025. The gear changer is now a column-mounted device, like those in VW ID. Cars, and the center panel have a new rotary controller with a little screen. This gadget lets you change the drive mode, the volume, and the color of the lights around you.

Please keep checking back for more information on the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan, which will make its U.S. debut in the coming months and go on sale in 2024. This model from Europe is expected to hit the market in early 2019.
