Lexus plans to update its biggest car by 2025. For the first time, the huge Lexus LX will come with a hybrid engine in 2025, called the LX700h. There will also be a new and improved Overtrail grade (above) that comes with off-roading gear. For the Overtrail trim, you have to choose the new combination setup. The Lexus LX600 and LX700h, two high-end SUVs, will go on sale early in 2025.

2025 Lexus LX Features Hybrid Powertrain And Rugged Overtrail Version

Electric Help

The new LX700h has the same 3.4-liter V-6 twin-turbo engine as the LX600, but it has an electric motor and a nickel-metal hydride battery added between the engine and the transmission. The engine now has 457 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque instead of 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet. The hybrid system still uses the 10-speed automatic transmission. Even though the data is still pretty new, Lexus says that the EPA estimates that it will get 20 mpg, which is one more than the 2024 LX600.

A starter and an alternator are built into this hybrid setup, according to Lexus. If the hybrid system fails, the car can still run by starting the engine on its own and keeping an extra 12-volt battery charged by a generator.

The LX700h can run fully on electric power in low-range situations where the driver wants more precise throttle control. This is another all-terrain benefit of the hybrid system.

Lexus says the LX700h is heavier because it has a new three-cross frame under its body. In order to make room for the hybrid battery, the spare tire was moved while the exit angle stayed the same. In cars with two rows of seats, the battery is behind the trunk. In cars with seven seats, it is under the third row.

Venturing into Uncharted Territory

The LX Overtrail is the fifth trim level. It has updated front and back locking differentials, making it a total of three differentials. The Torsen locking center differential with limited slip is still there. Off-road problems won’t stop the Overtrail. On its 18-inch wheels, the Overtail has 33-inch all-terrain tires, a front skid plate, and a 2400-watt AC generator that can power any camping gear. The LX700h will be the only vehicle with the Overtrail trim, which comes in two- and three-row options.

The Overtrail is different from other Lexus models because it has a matte gray face, black door handles, and dark gray roof rails. Black paint covers the big wheel arches, and dark metal covers the window and bumper trim. Lexus offers the Overtrail in tan Earth paint to complete the rugged look. The interior can be finished with black open-pore wood trim and leather seats in either black or stone brown. There are also all-weather floor covers in the package.

Additional Treats for All

By 2025, the LX series will come with more common features. It is now standard on all LX models to have a head-up display, adaptive changeable suspension, and active height control. Also, USB-C ports have been added to the back of the center panel, and starting in 2025, the Ultra Luxury trim will come standard with a wireless charger on the front of the car. The LX700h comes with a cool box in the center panel, a shelf system for the trunk, and manual sunshades for the back seats. When the semi-aniline leather trim is put on in 2025, the front chairs will have five massage levels.

All 2025 Lexus LXs come with Lexus’ Safety System+ 3.0, which includes features like lane departure warning with steering assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. The Lexus LX700h will also have Remote Park and Advanced Park technologies that allow the car to park itself.

According to Lexus, the LX600 and LX700h can each pull up to 8,000 pounds. The LX600’s engine won’t change until 2025. Lexus says prices will be announced later, but we think the LX’s base price will go up from the $93,915 price of the 2024 model. It is a given that the hybrid LX700h will cost several thousand dollars more when it comes out.
