Subaru Confirms the Forester Hybrid Will Arrive for the 2025 Model Year, Not 2026 as Previously Thought. The company also shared new information about the hybrid powertrain for the upcoming Crosstrek Hybrid, which will likely be shared in the Forester as well. Subaru States That the Crosstrek Hybrid Uses a “Series-Parallel System” to Power the Wheels with Either the Engine or Electric Motor, Depending on the Situation. Subaru has said that the new Forester Hybrid will come out in 2025, not 2026, as was first thought. This will not be Subaru’s first Forester Hybrid. The company sold the last version of the Forester with an e-Boxer hybrid drivetrain in Europe but never in the US. The company made public the hybrid mayhem details for the Crosstrek Hybrid. According to the company, the new system has a 2.5-liter flat-four engine and a “series-parallel” hybrid system that, depending on the situation, can draw power from either the engine or an electric motor. The company says a brand-new 2.5-liter flat-four engine was made just for the new hybrid system. This system has a combustion engine and two electric motors: one drives the wheels, and the other is a generator. The whole thing is inside a rebuilt transaxle that has an electrically controlled link and a front differential gear. The company says that the Crosstrek Hybrid gets 20% better gas mileage than its standard hybrid system. The new system has an electric motor with 118 horsepower and a battery with 1.1 kWh of power. The company hasn’t said when the new Forester will be ready, but it has said that it will be a model year 2025. The non-hybrid Forester starts at $31,230, so the hybrid model is expected to cost a lot more.
