This new Mercedes compact electric car (EV) prototype was caught on camera by our spies. The MMA platform, which was first seen on the Concept CLA, will be used for this car. Mercedes will soon make small electric cars (EVs) that will have a range of 400 miles and a transmission with two speeds. The EQE and EQS are two electric sedans that Mercedes has already announced. These spy photos, on the other hand, show that the company is working on a smaller version. Even though we didn’t like the EQE or EQS, we’re more excited about this new model because its base and engine have been updated, as shown by the beautiful EQXX concept from 2022. The Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA), which was made for the company’s smaller EVs, is likely to have room for this car. Because it uses 800-volt electricity, it will be able to charge very quickly. The first look at the platform was the Concept CLA, which made its debut earlier this year at the Munich car show. Mercedes says that the MMA base can fast-charge at 250 kW DC, which can add up to 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes. It had a single 235-hp electric engine and a two-speed drive to make it more fuel-efficient at higher speeds. According to European WLTP testing standards, the most powerful version of the CLA wants to go 466 miles, which is about 400 miles under EPA rules. Mercedes has already said that it wants to offer different types of batteries with different sizes in the future. For instance, batteries that cost more have higher energy levels. Based on the EQE and EQS, these new cars will likely be built on the MMA base and come in both rear-drive and all-wheel-drive versions, as well as at least one AMG version. It’s hard to tell what model this prototype is based on because, like most test mules, some of its obvious features have been designed to trick people. It could be a stand-alone car like the C-class, or it could be a production version of the electric CLA with a covering that hides its shape. If the first option is chosen, Mercedes is thinking about getting rid of its own EQ brand because it has more fully electric models. Instead, it will use the CLA name for the whole range, which we expect will include some models with combustion engines. Instead, the car shown above could be changed to look like the EQE and EQS. By the way, Mercedes owns US patents for a lot of different categories, such as EQC300 through EQC450. In some parts of the world, there was already an EQC SUV, but not in the US. No matter what the name of this new model is, Mercedes-Benz will likely be going up against cars like the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4. A lot of people think it will be made by 2024.
