The 70 Series Land Cruiser looks like it can’t be broken. The 70 Series, which came out in 1984 and has had four facelifts since then, is like Toyota’s Mercedes G-Class that looks like a different car. The antique Land Cruiser has been carefully fixed and reconditioned, but only people in Japan, Australia, and the Middle East can buy it. No one else can. Even fewer people will choose the stunningly beautiful three-door short-wheelbase model that was released at the same time as the 2024 redesign.

For those of us in the United States, this is a pipe dream. Based on information from Toyota’s website in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Carscoops says that only people who live in the UAE will be able to buy the short-wheelbase 70 Series. The three-door cars used to be sold everywhere the 70 Series was sold, but the market has dropped greatly because of stricter rules about crashes and pollution.

After almost 40 years, Toyota is still making the Land Cruiser 70 with three doors

That doesn’t mean Toyota won’t add a three-door Land Cruiser to the range, though. The company has worked very hard to keep the 70 Series going, even though there have been some regulatory problems. Due to limits on accidents, Toyota stopped selling the car in Japan in 2015. At the same time, stricter rules on emissions were put in place around the world. After this repair, the car can go back to Japan safer in case of an accident. There is also a new 2.8-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine choice that is better than the old 4.5-liter turbodiesel V8, but the V8 is still available for most of the range.

In the UAE, the short-wheelbase truck will come with a 4.0-liter gasoline V6 engine and an automatic drive with six speeds. Inside, there is only one color choice and four colors with dull names: brown, silver metallic, white, and silver metallic. It’s simple like a Land Cruiser should be. We’ll have to look at the 70 Series’s retro-nouveau style from afar. The one that comes out next year will be very different from this one, but the right source will have at least inspired it.
