Honda told reporters earlier this week that older Accord cars from 2018 to 2022 will get Apple CarPlay later this year. This is a strange piece of news. The feature only needs a software update. However, because Accords from earlier generations don’t have mobile internet connections, Honda dealers have to schedule a service visit to make the upgrade happen.

Apple CarPlay says that Honda will add wireless in 2018–2022

By the end of January, Honda hopes to have a website up and running where customers can make appointments for required maintenance (Invoice Pricing). That’s when people who own deals can expect to learn more about the plan. The driver called Honda to ask more questions about the improvement, like when it will be available for the first time, how much it will cost, and if it will affect other Honda and Acura models. We’ll make changes to this site as soon as new information comes in.

Some 2021 and 2022 Accords have wireless phone projection, but automakers don’t usually add this kind of technology to cars that weren’t made with it from the start. This should be a useful improvement for the huge number of fairly new Honda midsize sedans that are on the market.
