Honda’s first concept car, the HP-X, has been brought back to life by Pininfarina and Honda. The HP-X design will be shown again at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in the middle of August 2024. The new Toyota GR86 is 165.4 inches long, while the HP-X is 163.8 inches long and has a 2.0-liter V-6 engine placed in the middle. When it comes to political chaos and the rise of AI in power, it can feel like we are living in a nightmare version of 1984. Honda, on the other hand, will show a more positive side of history from 1984 at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The beautiful mid-engine sports car idea called the Honda HP-X was first shown at the auto show in Turin in 1984. It has been fixed up a lot and will look great in the August sun on the Pebble Beach lawn. The HPX was Honda’s first concept car. It was made by the famous Italian design house Pininfarina. The idea, which is forty years old, has been brought back to Pininfarina’s workshop to be completely fixed up. In the “Wedge-Shaped Concept Cars and Prototypes” category at this year’s Pebble Beach event, the changed HP-X will be up for a prize. The HP-X is very small. It’s only 43.7 inches tall and 163.8 inches long, which is about four inches less than a Toyota GR86. The body is a smooth wedge shape with a short hood and a number of angled lines running down the sides that make the cab-forward look stand out. The HP-X doesn’t have any doors. Instead, it has a single, upward-lifting Perspex canopy that is painted in two different shades of blue and white with a sporty red line separating them. The HP-X was made to look sleek and have better airflow and ground effects. The low-profile back part of the cover was made to work as an air brake that the driver could change. Carbon fiber and Kevlar were also used to make the HP-X lighter. The HP-X’s 2.0-liter V-6 DOHC 24-valve engine is in the middle. It was based on a Honda Formula 2 race engine. Sonar-based road state warnings, GPS, and real-time data were shown on screens inside the cabin. Honda says that the HP-X concept inspired and guided the development of the first-generation NSX, which is sold around the world under the Honda brand and in the US under the Acura name. We can’t wait to see the metal copy of the HP-X idea when the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance starts on August 18.
