• Toyota has said that they will be recalling about a million Lexus and Toyota cars from the model years 2020 to 2022.
  • The issue is due to a front passenger seat sensor that was not made properly. This sensor may short circuit, and the airbag will not deploy in some types of accidents.
  • Six Toyota cars and two Lexus models are being recalled. These include the Camry, Corolla, RAV4, and Lexus RX.

Because of a problem with a monitor, Toyota has decided to call back about a million cars. The company that made these cars says that the Occupant Classification System (OCS) monitor in the front passenger seat could short-circuit because of a problem with the way it was made. All of these cars were made between 2020 and 2022. As Toyota puts it, the passenger airbag “may not deploy as designed” in some types of accidents.

Because the airbags could go off, a million Toyota and Lexus cars have been called back

Toyota mentioned the following cars but didn’t include the model numbers for any of them: Camry and Camry Hybrid from 2020 to 2021; Sienna Hybrid from 2020 to 2022; Avalon, Avalon Hybrid, Corolla, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, RAV4, and RAV4 Hybrid from 2020 to 2021; and RAV4 and RAV4 Hybrid from 2020 to 2021. The recall also covers the ES350, RX350, and RX350H from 2020 to 2021, as well as the ES300H from 2020 to 2022 and the ES250 from 2021.

The car company promised to let customers know by the middle of February 2024 and to check and repair the OCS sensors for free if they were broken. For now, owners can check the websites for the Toyota or Lexus recalls to see if their car is covered. This recall has yet to be added to the NHTSA’s issues page, but it will be soon.
