Jaguar will stop making cars with internal combustion engines later this year. A story in Road & Track says that the company plans to keep some of its current gas-powered cars on hand until the release of its next wave of electric cars. In the next few years, three new models based on the JEA (Jaguar Electric Architecture) technology will take the place of the current models. The first type will be a four-seater electric GT car. Jaguar is getting ready for a comeback like a phoenix as the British car company works toward its goal of making only electric cars by 2025. This means getting rid of the current range and switching to more expensive cars. This means that later this year, Jaguar will stop making the gas-powered XF sedan, as well as the E- and F-Pace crossovers. Production of the F-type racing car has already stopped for the 2024 model year. This week, Joe Eberhardt, CEO and President of Jaguar Land Rover North America, talked about the changes to Road & Track. “Most of our products will no longer be made after June,” says Eberhardt, R&T. “But they will be on sale for a much longer time.” “Until the new cars arrive, we will be able to maintain a steady supply of automobiles thanks to a production plan that…We are attempting to schedule it such that we will have sufficient volume to see us through to the new product’s debut and ensure a smooth transition.” Some present models have to stay on the market for more than a year after production stops so that Jaguar can make sure the switch goes smoothly until the EVs come out. The car company has shown off three new models that will be built on the new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA) base. For sure, the first version is the four-door GT. The company thinks we’ll see it before the end of the year, and they plan to start sending them out in 2025. Automotive News says that JLR CEO Adrian Mardell said on the company’s earnings call last month that the second new EV will go on sale in late 2025, and the third will go on sale in 2026. Two more expensive and fast electric cars that look like the unnamed GT (seen above in the teaser) are the Audi e-tron GT and the Porsche Taycan. In April 2023, Jaguar gave a hint about the upcoming GT by saying that it had “indicative pricing” of around £100,000, which is about $127,000 today. The company that made the GT has said that it will be the most powerful Jaguar ever, but it hasn’t said how much power it has. We think the GT will have about 600 horsepower since the top-of-the-line F-Type has 575 horsepower. The new car is said to have a maximum range of 430 miles, but this number could have been found using the European WLTP test. Based on how the EPA tests cars, we think the range is less than 400 miles. By the end of this year, Jaguar will no longer make its old electric I-Pace SUV or any of its cars with internal combustion engines. With an EPA-rated range of up to 246 miles, the 2018 I-Pace’s 90.0-kWh battery pack isn’t a big deal in the luxury EV market, especially since the car starts at $73,275.
