• After Stellantis and the UAW reached a deal to stop the strike, the automaker announced plans for making cars in the U.S., including details about future models.
  • The Jeep Wrangler will become electric in 2028, but there will also be a hybrid version with a gas engine that charges the battery while the car is being driven.
  • In 2027, Dodge and Jeep will likely add new mid-size truck models to their lineups. One of these models could bring back the Dakota name.

Stellantis and the UAW recently came to a tentative deal to end the strike that had been going on for weeks and stopped work in many places across the country. As part of the approval process, a document was shared on social media that shows Stellantis’ production plans for the next few years as well as the automaker’s plan to switch its truck-heavy lineup to electric power. Nevertheless, the particulars are still subject to further discussion and development.

Beginning in 2027, new mid-size cars will be on the market. In 2028, the Jeep Wrangler EV will follow

The paper says that the Wrangler, which is Jeep’s most popular model, will still be made in the Toledo Assembly Complex until 2028 in its current J.L. generation. In 2025, the well-known 4xe plug-in hybrid type will get better. The next Wrangler, the J70, will only be available as an electric or plug-in hybrid off-road car when it goes on sale in 2028. In contrast to the standard 4xe, the plug-in hybrid will work as a series hybrid, with the motor charging the battery instead of driving the wheels.

Similar plans call for a better plug-in hybrid Jeep Gladiator pickup in 2025. The current J.T. generation will stay in production until 2028. The Toledo plant, on the other hand, does not have a newer version of Gladiators. Stellantis instead is spending $1.5 billion on its factory in Belvidere, Illinois, so that it can start making new medium trucks in 2027. The use of the plural and lack of brand specificity suggest that this plan includes both Jeep and Dodge vehicles, which could bring back the Dakota trademark. Even though there is little information about the powertrain, the source says that 80,000 to 100,000 units will be made each year. There will be an extra $3.2 billion put into building a new battery factory in Belvidere.

In 2025, the big Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models will get a new look. In 2027, they will get another update. Warren Truck Assembly will get a new Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer model in 2025. It will be built on the same STLA Frame base that will hold the new RAM 1500 REV. This car will first be offered in a plug-in hybrid mode that extends the range. In 2027, an electric version will be added to the lineup based on the same platform.

The electric Ram 1500 REV will be sold at the Sterling Heights plant in 2024. The document also says that there will be an extended-range version, which the CEO of the business has already confirmed. In 2024, there will also be a change to the gas-powered car.

The current generation of Jeep Grand Cherokees, which includes the two-row and three-row L models, will be made at the Detroit Assembly Complex until 2027. A makeover is planned for 2024. From what the study shows, there will be both gas-powered and electric cars when the new model comes out in 2027. The Grand Cherokee’s corporate cousin, the Dodge Durango, will get a new generation in 2026. There will be battery- and gas-powered versions, and the Jeep is expected to share its powertrains.

Some cars weren’t on this list because they aren’t made in the United States. These include the Jeep Compass, Jeep Renegade, Dodge Hornet, Chrysler Pacifica, and Ram ProMaster van. At the same time, Toledo and Belvidere will have more room when the Jeep Cherokee is taken out at the end of the 2023 model year. It was supposed to build on the Recon concept, which was shown last year and was supposed to come out in 2024. The Wagoneer S concept was shown at the same time as the Grand Cherokee E.V., but it came out later than planned.

The article doesn’t talk about the Ram Rampage small truck for South America, even though prototypes were found there and were thought to be on their way to the U.S. It also doesn’t talk about the replacements for the Dodge Charger and Challenger, which were made in Canada. The document gives a pretty good overview of Stellantis’ plans to switch to electric cars, but it doesn’t provide a full picture of what the company plans to do until 2030.
