• Jeep says that the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer full-size SUVs may no longer be able to be bought with V-8 engines.
  • According to the EPA and an order book, the 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six will be the only engine choice in 2024.
  • The Wagoneer’s first engine was a 5.7-liter V-8, and the Grand Wagoneer’s was a 6.4-liter V-8.

When the new Hurricane inline-six comes out in 2023, the Hemi V-8 engines that were once offered in the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will be taken off the market. We have documents that say the 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter V-8 engines that used to be offered in the 2024 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will no longer be available. Jeep hasn’t said anything official about the 2024 model year yet.

The basic 2024 Wagoneer used to come with a 392-hp 5.7-liter V-8 in the short-wheelbase version. However, the long-wheelbase Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L already only had inline-six engines. From now on, the only engine choice for the Wagoneer will be the Hurricane inline-six with 420 horsepower. It will come with either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, as well as an automatic engine with eight speeds.

The changes to the Grand Wagoneer are less evident because the EPA still lists the 6.4-liter V-8 engine for 2024. But a store price database shows that all versions come with the 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, which suggests that its presence is mostly the same as last year. The Grand Wagoneer’s high-output Hurricane engine makes 510 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque, more than the V-8, which only produced 471 horsepower and 455 pound-feet.

We will change this story as soon as we have official details. We asked Jeep for proof but have yet to hear back from them.
