Volkswagen said on Tuesday that starting in 2025, its North American brands—Audi, Porsche, and soon-to-be Scout Motors—will use Tesla’s NACS connection to charge their electric cars. Adapters are also being tried to make it possible for current Volkswagen Group EVs to join to Tesla’s Supercharger network.

Electrify America, a Volkswagen subsidiary, said that NACS would be placed at its public charging stations by 2025, which is similar to what you claim. When that news came out in June of last year, it looked like big problems were coming for CCS, which is the standard used by all North American automakers except Tesla.

By 2025, EVs from Volkswagen, Porsche, and Audi will be able to charge with NACS

Volkswagen thinks that by making its cars compatible with Superchargers, it will be able to use about 15,000 charging stations that weren’t available before. Electrify America now has 3,800 fast-charging stations.

There will be a short wait for people who own Volkswagen EVs or EVs made by companies connected to Volkswagen. Electrek says that the German company won’t have CCS-to-NACS switches for its products until the beginning of 2025. This is different from General Motors and Ford’s electric options, which could start charging at Superchargers as soon as two months from now. But Tesla is already adding the “Magic Dock” system to its standard Supercharger terminals. This is basically an adapter that is built in.

Ford, GM, Rivian, Volvo, Polestar, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Hyundai, Kia, BMW, Mini, and Lucid are all on the NACS train. One of the biggest companies in the world is also on it. Stellantis is the only major player who has yet to say yes, but all of the automakers that it is working with on that huge joint effort to charge have already said yes, so you’d think the dominoes are about to fall any second.
