A few Chevy Corvette Z06s may be having trouble with something strange. Some C8 Z06 drivers have taken up rock collecting as a hobby, picking up minerals from the road with their mid-mounted flat-plane V8 sports car. Several reports of C8 Z06 drivers found extra stones in the panels under the car. Carscoops says forum users have been talking about this problem for a while. In a post, the blog Corvetteblogger told Corvette owners about the situation. It also noted that some people’s underbody parts needed to be in the right place. GTPrix, one of the users, found “a ton” of rocks on top of his undertray. The undertray looked sagging, so the rocks that got in and piled above it had nowhere to go. Modern cars often have this kind of underbody covering. The plates are made to stop air from moving under the vehicle so that there is less drag, lift, and turbulent air under the car. The panels need to be in the right place for the best performance. However, anyone who has worked on a modern car knows how hard it can be to handle. Even though the pieces are complicated, they fit together in clever ways. Like in GTPrix, one wrong step can cause stress or compression in one panel, making it bend and flex. Panels put in the wrong during pre-delivery checks (PDI) at dealerships are said to be to blame. As part of the PDI, sellers take off and put back on the panels. Somewhere in this process, the discussions get out of line, which is why rocks pile up on top of them. Even people who aren’t good at fixing things mechanically can use this simple fix. The panels can be removed and put back in the right place with a Torx T15 and a 7mm hole. People who own a C8 Z06 may be able to relax, even if they have trouble gathering rocks.
