It looks like your worries came true: Dodge power cars with manual transmissions are no longer being made. On Tuesday, when the 2024 Charger was first shown off, there was a lot to be excited about. The 670-horsepower Daytona Scat Pack EV and the twin-turbo I6 models would carry the fire for internal combustion. However, the 2019 Charger’s transmission choices were not given. When we called Dodge, this is what they said: “No plans for a manual transmission.”

We did not expect this. The Challenger Hellcat manual came back in 2023, which was a big deal, but the Charger hasn’t had a stick shift in years. The Challenger has been replaced by the Charger, which comes with two or four doors. No matter how stupid it was, we hoped for a miracle.

Front-wheel drive is no longer standard on the Charger, even though it would be fun to tear a fat skid and throw the clutch. The engines are twin-turbo 3.0-liter Hurricane I6s. All-wheel drive is the only choice right now, and even with the Line Lock feature, they can cut power to the front axle while the car is still. This part isn’t meant to kick the back end out around a turn; it’s meant to get the tires warmed up before a quarter-mile run.

Even so, you don’t need to worry about the 2024 Charger. Because it breaks some rules by not using the V8 and leaving the guides behind, it’s a partial sell-out. The style is great, and it makes many references to the model’s Mopar roots. There’s no doubt that it will happen quickly. If the current choices don’t interest you, don’t worry—more powerful ICE and EV versions are on the way.
