Motor Authority says that the 2024 Ford Mustang with the extra V-8 will cost more than was thought before.
Most price rises for V-8 cars come from the extra $1,000 to $1,300 in taxes on vehicles that use a lot of gas.
The Dark Horse 500-hp now starts at $60,895, which is $1300 more than the Mustang GT car, which used to start at $44,090.

If you want a 2024 Ford Mustang with the new 5.0-liter Coyote V-8, you’ll have to pay at least $1000 more than you thought. The price of the new seventh-generation pony car goes up because it has to pay a gas guzzler tax. This tax is put on vehicles that don’t meet government rules for fuel economy.

The starting MSRP for the Mustang GT coupe was $43,090, but after the gas-guzzler tax of $1,000, it goes up to $44,090. The starting MSRPs for the GT Premium coupe and convertible types also go up, going from $48,610 to $54,110.

A $1300 gas-guzzler tax applies to the Mustang Dark Horse, which has an improved Coyote V-8 and 500 horsepower, compared to the GT’s 480-486 horsepower. The base MSRP for the new performance model, which just came out, is now $60,895. A Ford official also told Car and Driver that “due to strong demand,” the Dark Horse Premium base price has increased by $1400. The starting price right now is $64,860.

Several choices available to the Dark Horse will also cost more than expected. The handling package went from $495 to $4995, the looks package went from $250 to $1500, and the carbon fiber wheels went from $500 to $8995. This summer is when the 2024 Ford Mustang will go on sale.
