• Volkswagen revealed the Tayron today, which will replace the Tiguan Allspace in the European market.
  • We believe the Tayron paints a clear picture of what to expect from the US version of the next-generation Tiguan.
  • The exterior of the Tayron looks very luxurious, and the interior is sleek and rectangular.

The United States is still waiting for its own next-generation Volkswagen Tiguan, despite Europe receiving a new Tiguan compact SUV last year. In Europe, Volkswagen is now releasing the Tayron, a new crossover that looks a lot like the 2025 Tiguan, which will soon be available here.

Europe's Volkswagen Tayron Is A Preview Of The US's New Tiguan Three-Row SUV

To explain, the Tayron has replaced the Tiguan Allspace, a smaller SUV from Volkswagen, with a longer length that was sold in the US as the Tiguan until 2018. Using the Tayron’s long-wheelbase chassis, Volkswagen will release a new Tiguan model in the US later this year. “The equipment set, sheet metal, and powertrain options will differ markedly,” the company that makes the car says, though. Although, the Tiguan made for the US market will be a lot like the Tayron shown above. The US version of the new model will be shown for the first time at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

A Well-Designed, High-Feature Crossover

It’s now time to discuss the Tayron. The crossover is about 189.0 inches long, three inches longer than the newest Tiguan model in the US but about 11 inches shorter than the larger Atlas. In addition to the regular five seats, a third row can be added to make room for seven people.

Volkswagen’s design is known for using rectangles and straight lines. A glowing Volkswagen logo separates the thin LED light bar that connects the headlights. The bar sits on top of a grille with a big mouth and vertical vents all around it. There is chrome trim on the side windows and the back of the D-pillar, and there is a chiseled character line that goes from the front wheel arch to the rear door handle and the headlights. Full-width taillights are a modern trait.

This car’s interior features Volkswagen’s most modern design elements, such as the ID—Buzz’s big, upright 12.6-inch touchscreen. A lit ornamental piece in front of the passenger seat flows across the doors, and the whole width of the car is covered in open-pore wood trim. The air quality in the cabin is usually good.

Various Powertrain Designs

Multiple four-cylinder powertrains will be available in Europe. The base model will be a mild hybrid with 148 horsepower. Volkswagen is planning to release two plug-in hybrid Tayrons later this year. For more than 62 miles, VW says these cars will have an electric range of 201 or 268 horsepower and a 19.7-kWh battery. An AC charger can charge the battery at 11 kW, and a DC fast charger can provide 50 kW of power. VW’s comment makes us think that these hybrids won’t be sold in the US.

Additionally, Volkswagen will release two TDI turbo-diesel engines and two turbocharged gas engines. The most powerful TDI will have 190 horsepower and all-wheel drive as normal. Any engine setup has automatic dual-clutch gears.

The Tayron comes standard with an adaptive cruise control system, lane change, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency brakes with cyclist and pedestrian detection. It also includes an electronic rearview mirror, a digital set of gauges showing traffic signs, and the ability to stop the doors from opening if it senses something coming up behind the car.

An optional 700-watt Harman Kardon sound system, a panoramic sunroof, and a personal assistant that works with ChatGPT are available. Buyers will also be able to choose from power-adjustable leather chairs with massage and airflow features.

Although VW says that the Tayron doesn’t directly show us the next-generation Tiguan for the US market, it does give us a good idea of what to expect from the new small SUV.
