• Because of a software problem with the ABS control module, Chrysler is calling back about 211,000 cars. All of the affected cars are 2022 models.
  • The recall mostly affects 53,167 Dodge Durango and 157,890 Ram 2500 HD cars, but it also affects 524 Ram 3500 HD trucks.
  • The ABS software problem is serious. It’s broken, rendering the ESC system ineffective and increasing accident risk.

Chrysler is recalling 211,581 cars and SUVs because the ESC and ABS control units aren’t working properly. The vehicles in question are all from the 2022 model year and are likely to affect everyone who has been recalled.

For 2022, Chrysler is calling back 211K Ram 2500 pickup trucks and Durango SUVs

The highest number of cars affected by the recall are the Ram 2500 HD (157,890) and the Dodge Durango (53,167). 524 Ram 3500 HD trucks with a GVWR of less than 10,000 pounds are also part of the recall.

Recall papers say that a software problem in the ABS control module could turn off the electronic stability-control system. This would make an accident more likely and stop the car from meeting federal safety standards.

The safety rule in question is the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (“FMVSS”) 571.126 S5.1.2. Recall papers require the ESC system to work throughout accelerating, coasting, and deceleration (including stopping) to meet the standard.

Recall papers say that cars affected will have a malfunction warning light on the dashboard to let drivers know what’s wrong. Chrysler agreed to the recall, and they plan to contact owners and sellers by the end of July.

The company will swap out the broken software for the ABS control module for one that works with FMS. People who own cars and need to check if theirs is included in the recall can check the NHTSA recall page.
